Business Development Executive Freight Forwarding

Salary: Up to 40,000 per month + performance-based incentives
Working days: Monday to Saturday
Working hours: 10 AM to 7 PM (Flexible)

About the Role
We are looking for a driven Business Development Executive to grow our freight forwarding business. You will acquire new clients, nurture existing accounts, and sell our air, ocean (FCL/LCL), road, customs clearance, and warehousing solutions.
The ideal candidate has strong market knowledge, negotiation skills, and a hunter mindset, and works closely with the pricing and operations teams. You will own the sales pipeline, achieve revenue and shipment targets, and retain clients while protecting margins.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Generation & New Business Acquisition
- Identify, research, and target potential clients such as exporters, importers, manufacturers, traders, e-commerce, and project cargo shippers.
- Generate leads through cold calling, networking, LinkedIn, trade portals, exhibitions, and referrals.
- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline of qualified leads and convert them into long-term accounts.
- Pitch the companys freight forwarding services: air, sea, surface, multimodal, door-to-door, customs brokerage, and value-added services.
- Conduct client meetings, presentations, and site visits to understand shipping requirements and propose tailored solutions.
2. Quotations, Pricing & Negotiation
- Gather shipment details (commodity, volume, weight, Incoterms, origin/destination, transit time) from prospects and clients.
- Coordinate with the pricing team and carriers/agents to obtain competitive rates.
- Prepare and send accurate quotations, rate sheets, and proposals in a timely manner.
- Negotiate rates, contract terms, and payment terms to close deals while protecting margins.
3. Account Management & Client Relationships
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts and build strong relationships with key decision-makers.
- Ensure smooth handover of new customers to the operations team and follow up on shipment performance and service quality.
- Resolve client queries, delays, and escalations proactively in coordination with operations and customer service.
- Identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities across services and trade lanes.
4. Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Track market trends, freight rate movements, competitor offerings, trade lanes, and port congestion.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes related to customs, DGFT, and EXIM policies.
- Share market feedback with management to refine pricing and go-to-market strategy.
- Explore new geographies, industries, and trade lanes for business expansion.
5. Internal Coordination & Collections
- Work closely with operations, documentation, pricing, customs, and finance teams to ensure on-time, error-free shipment execution.
- Support credit evaluation of new customers.
- Follow up with the accounts team and clients on outstanding payments.
6. Reporting & CRM Management
- Maintain accurate records of leads, client interactions, quotations, and conversions in the CRM.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates for management.
- Achieve assigned monthly and quarterly targets for revenue, shipment volume (TEUs / kgs), and gross profit.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field (MBA/PGDM preferred), with 35 years of experience in freight forwarding or logistics sales.
- Good understanding of freight forwarding, international trade, Incoterms, shipping documents (bill of lading, airway bill), customs procedures, and freight rate structures.
- Knowledge of major trade lanes, carriers, ports, and airports.
- Hunter mindset with a proven ability to prospect, win new accounts, and close deals.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Commercially sharp: able to balance margin against competitiveness without losing the client relationship.
- Organised and persistent, with disciplined follow-up and daily CRM updates.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
- Willingness to learn recent trade lanes and products, with ambition to grow into a senior sales or key account role.
