Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced NPD Strategic Sourcing / SCM professional with 12+ years of experience to drive New Product Development, localization, cost optimization, supplier development, and strategic sourcing for the Battery Swapping Bus Truck Division.

The candidate will be responsible for developing and managing the supply base for mechanical systems, proprietary parts, battery-swapping systems, and other vehicle-related components while ensuring cost competitiveness, quality, technology readiness, and timely project execution.

The role requires strong expertise in zero-based costing, manufacturing processes, global sourcing, supplier development, and commercial negotiations, along with a strong network across automotive, automation, robotics, and special-purpose machine suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

1.New Product Development Supplier Development

- Lead supplier-side NPD activities for battery swapping systems, mechanical assemblies, proprietary components, and vehicle systems.
- Work closely with Engineering, RD, Quality, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams for new product development.
- Identify technically capable suppliers and drive APQP/PPAP, tooling, prototype development, validation, and SOP readiness.
- Drive localization and alternate-source development for critical components.
- Ensure supplier readiness in line with project timelines and product requirements.

2. Costing Cost Optimization

- Strong expertise in estimation and Zero-Based Costing (ZBC) for mechanical systems, fabricated parts, machined components, castings, forgings, sheet-metal components, assemblies, and proprietary parts.
- Analyze supplier quotations through should-cost / should-be-cost models.
- Develop cost models based on:




- Raw material | Manufacturing processes | Cycle time | Machine rates | Labour | Tooling | Overheads | Yield and scrap Logistics | Profit margins | Drive VA/VE, cost reduction, localization, and design-to-cost initiatives.

3. Manufacturing Process Expertise

- In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to automotive and EV applications, including:
- CNC machining | Sheet-metal fabrication | Welding | Casting | Forging | Injection moulding | Extrusion | Surface treatment | Heat treatment | Assembly processes
- Ability to evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities, process feasibility, capacity, tooling requirements, and scalability.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction during product development.

4. Global Strategic Sourcing

- Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for critical components and systems.
- Identify and qualify suppliers from India and international markets.
- Benchmark global supplier capabilities, technology, pricing, quality, and capacity.
- Build a robust supplier ecosystem for current and future battery-swapping platforms.
- Develop alternate suppliers for critical/high-risk components to ensure business continuity.

5. Supplier Network Industry Connect

Strong existing supplier network in:

- Automotive | Electric Vehicles | Battery systems | Automation | Robotics | Special Purpose Machines (SPM) | Industrial machinery | Precision engineering | Fabrication and machining
- Ability to identify and onboard new technology partners and strategic suppliers.
- Establish long-term supplier partnerships for technology development and localization.

6. Commercial Negotiation

- Excellent negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to achieve cost, payment-term, tooling, warranty, logistics, and commercial improvements.
- Lead commercial negotiations for recent product development and serial production.




- Challenge supplier cost structures using market intelligence and should-cost analysis.
- Manage commercial discussions during RFQ, nomination, development, and mass-production stages.

7. Supply Chain Program Management

- Ensure timely availability of prototypes, development parts, tooling, and production components.
- Monitor supplier milestones, capacity, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Resolve supplier-related issues affecting project timelines.
- Develop risk-mitigation plans for critical components and suppliers.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth transition from concept prototype validation PPAP SOP ramp-up.

- Preferred Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Automobile / Production / Industrial Engineering.
- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain / Procurement / Operations would be an added advantage.

Experience

12+ years of relevant experience in NPD, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Supplier Development, or SCM.

Preferably from Automotive / EV / Commercial Vehicle / Battery / Automation / Robotics / Industrial Equipment industries.

Experience handling complex mechanical systems and proprietary components is highly preferred.
