Role & responsibilities
1 . Process Engineering:
Key Responsibilities
- Own SMT and back-end process performance; achieve process PPM and quality targets.
- Set and maintain profiling for Reflow, Wave, and Selective soldering.
- Support NPI: line feasibility checks, process parameter setup, stencil design (IPC 7525), pilot/proto runs, and act as CFT member for scale-up to mass production.
- Provide on-the-floor technical support for critical processes and products.
- Track and review failure & yield analysis daily, weekly, and monthly; reduce DPMO and improve FPY with QA.
- Analyze defect trends (solder bridges, misalignment, tombstoning) and drive corrective/root-cause actions.
- Implement and monitor SPC to keep processes within control limits.
- Set up processes such as Bonding, Gluing, Conformal Coating, Encapsulation, Jigs & Fixtures.
- Analyze, design, and optimize processes for efficiency and minimal waste using Lean/Six Sigma.
- Minimize non-value-add activities RMA, rework, scrap and associated costs.
- Maintain and improve factory process metrics efficiency, cycle time, and capacity.
- Ensure equipment capability/capacity for growth; support selection, commissioning, and validation of recent equipment.
- Manage product/part obsolescence.
- Maintain process documentation PFDs, SOPs, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with Quality, R&D;, Maintenance, and Production teams; report findings and improvement proposals to management.
- Conduct risk assessments and drive best practices to improve output quality and rate.
2. Pre Engineering:
Customer Data Review & Pre-Engineering Readiness
- Review incoming customer packages (BOM, Gerber files,
schematics, assembly drawings, ECNs) for completeness, consistency, and accuracy prior to release into NPI.
- Cross-check BOM against Gerber/schematic data to identify mismatches, missing reference designators, or incomplete part information.
- Raise queries (CFTQs/RFIs) to customers or design teams for missing or ambiguous data, and track closure to ensure timely resolution.
- Prepare and maintain the engineering data package (BOM, drawings, routing inputs) required to kick off prototype and pilot builds.
DFM/DFA Support & Manufacturability Checks
- Perform preliminary Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) checks on PCB layouts and assembly drawings, flagging potential yield or process risks.
- Coordinate with Process Engineering and Industrial Engineering teams to validate component placement, panelization, and fixture/tooling requirements ahead of build.
- Support component footprint and package verification against approved libraries, escalating discrepancies for correction before release.
BOM & Part Data Management
- Create and maintain accurate BOM structures in the ERP/PLM system, ensuring correct part numbers, alternates, and approved vendor list (AVL) mapping.
- Coordinate with Sourcing and Part Development teams to confirm part availability, lead times, and alternate/equivalent part options for new introductions.
- Track and update engineering change notices (ECNs/ECOs) affecting BOM or drawing revisions throughout the NPI lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Coordination & NPI Support
- Support the NPI team during kickoff meetings, providing pre-engineering status updates and highlighting open data or documentation gaps.
- Coordinate with Quality and Process teams to ensure process routings, work instructions, and test requirements align with the reviewed engineering package.
- Assist in first article and prototype build readiness reviews, ensuring all pre-engineering checkpoints are closed prior to build.
- Maintain trackers and reports on pre-engineering status, open queries, and turnaround time (TAT) for new product introductions.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of PCB design data: Gerber files, schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and ECN/ECO documentation.
- Basic understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes (SMT, THT, assembly, testing) and how design data translates into shop-floor requirements.
- Familiarity with CAM/CAD tools (e.g., Genesis, CAM350, Valor, or equivalent) used for Gerber/BOM review and DFM checks is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of ERP/PLM systems for BOM creation, part master maintenance, and revision control.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office for data validation, tracking, and reporting.
Basic understanding of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) relevant to assembly and inspection requirements
