A Steel Structure Engineer designs, analyzes, details, and oversees the construction of metal frames, industrial buildings, pipe racks, towers, and bridges to ensure they are safe, durable, and cost-effective. [1, 2, 3]Role Overview

- Primary Goal: Ensure structural integrity, load-bearing capacity, and stability of steel-framed structures under dead, live, wind, and seismic loads.
- Core Collaborators: Architects, project managers, connection designers, steel fabricators, site erection teams, and clients. [1, 2, 3]

Key Responsibilities

- Design & Analysis: Perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel members, trusses, columns, beams, and foundations.
- Connection Design: Engineer complex steel-to-steel and steel-to-concrete connections (base plates, moment connections, bracing joints).
- Modeling & Detailing: Oversee or create 3D models and shop/fabrication drawings using specialized software.
- Estimation & Documentation: Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTO), Bills of Quantities (BOQ), technical specifications, and design reports.
- Reviews & Approvals: Review shop drawings, coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs), and secure approvals from clients or statutory consultants.
- Site Support: Conduct site visits,



inspect erection work, and resolve constructability or field engineering issues.
- Compliance: Ensure designs align with international and local building codes (e.g., AISC, Eurocode, IS codes, OSHA/HSE standards). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree (M.E. / M.Tech) is often preferred. [1, 2, 3]
- Experience: Generally 3 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in industrial, PEB (Pre-Engineered Buildings), or structural steel projects. [1, 2, 3]
- Software Proficiency:
- Analysis & Design: STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, IdeaStatica, RAM, or ANSYS.
- BIM & Detailing: Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, Advance Steel, or Navisworks. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of metallurgy, galvanization, protective coatings, welding standards, and erection sequences. [1, 2]
