Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled BBS Engineer for industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge and hands-on experience in Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) preparation, reinforcement detailing, quantity estimation, and steel reconciliation for RCC and structural concrete works.

The candidate should be capable of independently preparing accurate and detailed BBS from structural and architectural drawings, coordinating with engineering and site teams, identifying drawing discrepancies, and ensuring optimum reinforcement utilization with minimum steel wastage.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare accurate and detailed Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) for industrial RCC and civil structures.
- Interpret and review structural, architectural, and reinforcement drawings.
- Prepare BBS for:
- Foundations and footings
- Rafts and pile caps
- Columns and pedestals
- Beams and slabs
- Shear walls and retaining walls
- Equipment foundations
- Pipe rack foundations
- Industrial buildings and structures
- Trenches, drains, sumps, tanks, and other RCC structures
- Calculate reinforcement quantities, bar lengths, cutting lengths, bending shapes, laps, anchorage lengths, development lengths, and couplers as applicable.
- Prepare bar mark numbers, diameter-wise quantities, bar lengths, shapes, weights, and cutting lists.
- Ensure BBS complies with approved structural drawings, project specifications, and applicable IS/BS/ACI or project-specific codes and standards.
- Check reinforcement detailing for constructability and highlight discrepancies or missing information before execution.
- Coordinate with Structural Engineers, Design Engineers, Planning Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, and Site Execution teams.
- Prepare reinforcement quantity take-offs and support material procurement planning.
- Maintain accurate reinforcement steel consumption and reconciliation reports.




- Monitor theoretical versus actual reinforcement consumption and identify areas of excessive wastage.
- Optimize cutting and bending arrangements to minimize reinforcement steel wastage.
- Review BBS prepared by other engineers/draftsmen and provide technical corrections.
- Maintain proper revision control of BBS and ensure the latest approved drawings are used.
- Prepare BBS revisions based on approved design changes and site requirements.
- Support site teams in resolving reinforcement-related technical issues.
- Verify reinforcement quantities against drawings and BOQ quantities.
- Maintain BBS records, reinforcement statements, bar cutting lists, and supporting documentation for project records and billing.
- Assist in preparation of as-built reinforcement documentation wherever required.

- Bar-wise and diameter-wise reconciliation
- Optimization of bar cutting to reduce wastage
- Preparation of reinforcement cutting lists
- RCC detailing for complex industrial structures
- Drawing revision management
- Cross-checking BBS against structural drawings and specifications

Software Skills

Strong proficiency in relevant engineering and BBS software is required, including:

- AutoCAD
- Microsoft Excel – Advanced level
- BBS preparation/quantity take-off software
- Knowledge of Tekla / RebarCAD / BIM software will be an advantage.
- Ability to develop Excel-based BBS templates, formulas,



automated calculations, and reinforcement summaries.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably 8+ years for senior-level positions.
- Proven experience in industrial, EPC, infrastructure, refinery, petrochemical, power, manufacturing, or large-scale RCC projects.
- Strong knowledge of reinforcement detailing and construction practices.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prepare and check BBS for complex structures.

The ideal candidate is a BBS specialist rather than a general civil engineer, with extensive practical experience in reinforcement detailing and quantity calculations. The candidate should be confident in independently handling BBS for large and complex industrial RCC structures, from drawing review through material reconciliation and final documentation.
