Department: Procurement, Sourcing & Supply Chain

About the Role

We are building a food commodities sourcing and export business focused on rice and other agricultural commodities. We are looking for a result-oriented procurement professional who understands agricultural markets, has direct relationships with manufacturers and suppliers, and can help build our procurement operations from the ground up.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in commodity sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract management, market intelligence, quality control and cost optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

- Procure rice (Basmati and Non-Basmati), paddy, wheat, toor dal, chana, sugar and other agricultural commodities.
- Develop direct sourcing relationships with rice mills, manufacturers, processors, farmers, mandis, traders and stockists.
- Negotiate competitive prices, quality specifications, quantities, payment terms and delivery schedules.
- Draft, negotiate and manage supplier contracts and purchase agreements.
- Identify new suppliers, sourcing markets and procurement opportunities to secure consistent quality and competitive rates.

2. Commodity Market Intelligence

- Monitor daily commodity prices, crop arrivals, harvest cycles, market trends and regional supply-demand dynamics.
- Conduct crop surveys and assess crop availability, quality, production trends and procurement opportunities.
- Track competitors' pricing, procurement strategies and market activities.
- Prepare daily MIS reports, procurement updates and year-on-year (YoY) market and performance reports.

3. Quality Control & Cost Optimisation

- Ensure the procurement of the right quality and quantity at competitive prices.
- Identify opportunities to reduce procurement, processing, storage and logistics costs.

- Work with suppliers and processors to reduce grain defects, wastage, storage losses and product rejection.
- Understand grain quality parameters, processing methods, storage practices and applicable commodity specifications.

4. Supply Chain & Operations

- Coordinate procurement, transportation, storage, processing and timely delivery.
- Evaluate suppliers based on quality, pricing, reliability, capacity and fulfilment performance.
- Optimise the use of the 3Ms: Men, Materials and Markets.
- Support domestic trading and export requirements through dependable sourcing and supply planning.

5. Building the Procurement Function

- Build a supplier network and procurement processes from scratch.
- Develop recent markets, vendor relationships and sourcing channels.
- Establish procurement targets, cost-saving benchmarks and reporting systems.
- Demonstrate ownership, independent decision-making and the ability to work effectively with a growing team.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- 2–5 years of relevant experience in agro-commodity procurement, sourcing, agricultural trading or food exports.
- Practical experience in rice and paddy procurement, preferably covering both Basmati and Non-Basmati rice.
- Working knowledge of wheat, pulses such as toor dal and chana, and other agricultural commodities.
- Experience working directly with rice mills, manufacturers, processors, mandis, traders or stockists.

- Proven ability to negotiate supplier contracts and achieve procurement and cost-saving targets.
- Understanding of crop surveys, seasonal price movements, supply-demand analysis and commodity market trends.
- Experience preparing daily MIS reports and periodic performance or YoY reports.
- Strong vendor development, negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Additional Expertise

- Experience in procurement of maize, barley, mustard seeds, sesame seeds and other oilseeds.
- Knowledge of sesame seed processing, particularly natural-to-hulled sesame.
- Experience in grain quality assessment, storage management, processing losses and rejection reduction.
- Exposure to export-quality specifications, bulk commodity trading and logistics operations.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a professional with a builder's mindset who can develop procurement operations in a new company rather than simply manage an existing supplier list.

The candidate should be target-driven, commercially aware, comfortable working independently, and capable of building strong manufacturer relationships while ensuring quality, quantity, reliability and competitive procurement costs.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Procurement cost savings against market benchmarks.
- Number and quality of verified direct manufacturers and suppliers onboarded.
- Supplier contract development and fulfilment.
- Quality compliance and reduction in rejection, wastage and storage losses.
- Accuracy of daily MIS, crop surveys and market intelligence.
- Timely procurement and fulfilment of quantity requirements.
- Development of new sourcing markets and commodity categories.
