Principal Architect – Data Center & VMware Transformation

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to drive the transformation of enterprise data center operations. This role will be responsible for assessing, designing, and executing large-scale infrastructure modernization initiatives, with a solid focus on VMware virtualization platforms, storage infrastructure, operational efficiency, automation, consolidation, and cost optimization.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across VMware and storage technologies, combined with proven experience leading enterprise transformation programs that improve operational excellence, reduce infrastructure footprint, optimize costs, and modernize service delivery models.

Key Responsibilities

Data Center Transformation & Strategy

- Lead comprehensive assessments of existing data center environments to identify modernization opportunities.
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide transformation roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
- Drive infrastructure optimization initiatives including server consolidation, VM rightsizing, workload optimization, and platform standardization.
- Identify opportunities for operational simplification, process improvement, and cost reduction.
- Establish strategic recommendations for future-state architecture and operating models.

VMware Infrastructure Leadership

- Provide technical and strategic leadership across VMware environments, including:
- VMware vSphere
- vCenter
- VMware Cloud Foundation
- NSX
- vSAN
- HCX
- VMware Automation Solutions
- Lead VM consolidation and rationalization programs to improve host utilization and reduce infrastructure costs.
- Define capacity planning, performance optimization,



and lifecycle management strategies.
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience across VMware platforms.

Storage & Infrastructure Engineering

- Lead enterprise storage strategy and engineering initiatives.
- Evaluate and optimize storage architectures for performance, scalability, resiliency, and cost efficiency.
- Drive modernization efforts across SAN, NAS, Software-Defined Storage, and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure platforms.
- Establish storage lifecycle management practices and operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to align compute, storage, networking, and cloud strategies.

Operational Transformation

- Drive operational excellence programs focused on:
- Infrastructure standardization
- Process optimization
- Operational consolidation
- Automation and self-service capabilities
- Service delivery transformation
- Identify opportunities to reduce operational complexity and improve support models.
- Implement automation frameworks to minimize manual effort and improve service reliability.
- Define and measure operational KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics.

Cost Optimization & Efficiency

- Identify opportunities for infrastructure footprint reduction and resource optimization.
- Lead initiatives focused on:
- VM density improvements
- Host consolidation
- Storage utilization optimization
- License optimization
- Data center operational cost reduction
- Build business cases and ROI models supporting transformation initiatives.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management





- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
- Lead cross-functional engineering, operations, architecture, and transformation teams.
- Present transformation strategies, recommendations, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership.
- Mentor senior engineers, architects, and technical leaders.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, storage, and data center operations.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience managing and architecting large-scale VMware environments.
- Proven experience leading enterprise-wide data center transformation programs.
- Deep expertise in:
- VMware vSphere
- VMware Cloud Foundation
- VMware NSX
- VMware vSAN
- Enterprise Storage Platforms
- Data Center Operations
- Infrastructure Automation
- Capacity Planning
- Disaster Recovery
- Demonstrated experience in infrastructure consolidation and optimization initiatives.
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX), VCAP, VCP, or equivalent certifications.
- Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure & GCP).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience with AIOps, automation platforms, and operational analytics tools.
- Knowledge of FinOps and infrastructure cost management practices.
- Experience in hybrid cloud and cloud migration programs.
