The Role

We are seeking a PhD-level Senior Scientist to lead hands-on fermentation and bioprocess development at our Bengaluru R&D; facility.

This is an experimental, laboratory-focused position. You will design and execute fermentation and downstream-processing studies, analyse results, develop robust processes, and translate laboratory findings toward pilot and commercial scale.

Key Responsibilities

· Design and execute microbial fermentation experiments from shake-flask through bioreactor scale.

· Develop and optimise fermentation media, feeding strategies and process parameters.

· Work with yeast, fungi and/or other industrial microorganisms.

· Optimise biomass yield, productivity and process reproducibility.

· Develop upstream and downstream processing protocols.

· Design experiments (DoE), analyse data and draw actionable conclusions.

· Develop processes involving cell disruption, enzymatic treatment, separation, purification and drying.

· Establish analytical methods and experimental protocols.

· Operate and maintain laboratory and pilot-scale fermentation equipment.

· Lead scale-up from laboratory experiments toward pilot and commercial manufacturing.

· Troubleshoot biological and process-performance problems systematically.

· Maintain rigorous experimental documentation and technical reports.

· Contribute to patents, IP disclosures and technology-transfer packages.

· Work with external laboratories, universities, CDMOs and manufacturing partners.





· Mentor junior scientists and research staff.

QualificationsRequired

· PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, Industrial Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Chemical Engineering, Food Biotechnology or a closely related discipline.

· Solid hands-on experience with microbial fermentation and bioprocess development.

· Experience designing and operating laboratory-scale bioreactor experiments.

· Strong understanding of fermentation parameters including DO, pH, temperature, agitation, aeration, substrate feeding and biomass growth.

· Strong experimental design, data-analysis and troubleshooting capability.

· Excellent scientific documentation and communication skills.

Preferred

· 2+ years of relevant post-PhD industrial or applied R&D; experience.

· Experience with yeast or fungal fermentation.

· Experience with aerobic fed-batch fermentation.

· Experience with protein, enzyme, biomass or food-ingredient processes.

· Experience in downstream processing and scale-up.

· Experience transferring processes from laboratory to pilot or commercial manufacturing.

· Exposure to patents or technology development.

We want a scientist who enjoys actually doing science at the bench and bioreactor, not simply managing projects.

You should be intellectually curious, experimental, comfortable troubleshooting failed runs, and capable of converting biological observations into reproducible processes.
