Role Summary
Own the accuracy, timeliness and regulatory compliance of all NSDL depository operations for our DP. The role ensures that every client instruction, account change and holding is right the first time, that controls work as designed, and that AI and automation are used to make operations faster, simpler and more reliable, with human judgement applied where it matters.
Key Responsibilities
Account lifecycle integrity
- Ensure demat account opening, modification, closure, nomination and transmission/transposition requests are completed accurately, within SLA and in line with KYC norms
- Use OCR and AI-based document checks to pre-verify KYC, PAN, signatures and supporting documents, so manual review focuses only on flagged exceptions
Instruction and transfer controls
- Ensure all DIS, SPEED-e and e-DIS instructions, pledge/unpledge, off-market and inter-depository transfers are executed only after proper verification
- Set up and oversee AI-assisted signature matching, DIS slip validation and anomaly detection (unusual quantities, dormant accounts, mismatched details) to prevent errors and fraud
Demat, remat and corporate actions
- Ensure demat/remat requests are tracked to closure and that clients receive corporate action benefits (dividend, bonus, split, rights, mergers) correctly and on time
- Use automated trackers and alerts to flag pending requests, record dates and credit discrepancies before they become client issues
Reconciliation and exception management
- Ensure DP holdings reconcile with NSDL records every day, with zero unresolved breaks beyond defined timelines
- Drive automated (RPA-based) reconciliation and AI-driven exception detection so the team spends time resolving breaks, not finding them
Regulatory reporting and audit readiness
- Ensure NSDL returns and MIS are accurate and submitted on time, and that the DP is always inspection and audit ready
- Use AI assistants to draft MIS commentary, reports, SOPs and audit responses, with final review and sign-off by the role
Compliance and risk
- Ensure operations comply with SEBI (Depositories and Participants) Regulations, NSDL Bye-laws and Business Rules, and PMLA/AML requirements
- Ensure AI tools are used responsibly: client data stays protected under the DPDP Act and internal policy, outputs are verified, and decisions remain human-approved
Process improvement
- Identify manual, repetitive steps and simplify them through automation, RPA and AI, measuring gains in turnaround time, accuracy and cost
- Maintain maker-checker discipline and transparent audit trails for both manual and automated steps
Client service and team capability
- Ensure investor queries are resolved accurately and within timelines, using AI to draft responses and maintain a searchable knowledge base
- Coach junior executives on NSDL processes, controls and effective, safe use of AI tools
Success Measures
- Turnaround time within SLA for account and instruction processing
- Zero material reconciliation breaks and zero regulatory penalties
- Clean NSDL inspection and internal/external audit outcomes
- Measurable reduction in manual effort and error rates through automation
- Investor query resolution within timelines
Requirements
- Graduate in Commerce, Finance or Management (B.Com / BBA / MBA preferred)
- NISM Series VI (Depository Operations) certification preferred
- Experience in NSDL DP operations, with exposure to supervising or reviewing others' work
Must-Have Skills
- Systems: Hands-on with NSDL DPM, SPEED-e/IDeAS and NSDL-compliant DP back-office software; advanced Excel (XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Power Query)
- AI and automation: Practical understanding of how AI, RPA and OCR apply to DP operations (KYC/DIS verification, reconciliation, exception detection); ability to spot automation opportunities and work with tech teams to implement them; comfortable using AI assistants for reporting, documentation and query handling
- Responsible AI: Awareness of data privacy, the limits of AI outputs and the need for human verification in regulated processes
- Domain: Strong knowledge of NSDL processes, SEBI and NSDL regulations, KYC/KRA/CKYC norms, PMLA requirements.
- Behavioural: Strong ownership, attention to detail, control mindset, clear communication and the ability to guide a team
