Senior Electrical Design Engineer – LV & MV Switchgear

About the role

RMR Innotech is hiring a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer to produce and review the electrical side of LV and MV switchgear, switchboard, MCC, and power distribution equipment: schematics, wiring, and the calculations that support UL, IEEE, and IEC compliance.

You will work alongside our SolidWorks design team and take direct ownership of electrical correctness. This is a good role for an engineer who wants more technical depth and client exposure than a typical in-house panel shop offers.

This role may suit you if your current title is: Electrical Design Engineer, Electrical Engineer (Switchgear/Panels), Panel Design Engineer, Project Engineer (Electrical), Application Engineer, or Senior Engineer in switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, or power distribution equipment.

What you'll do

- Prepare and review single-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnection diagrams for LV and MV equipment.
- Select and specify electrical components such as circuit breakers, vacuum contactors, relays, metering, CTs/PTs, and protection devices, and prepare the electrical BOM.
- Perform compliance calculations and design verification: busbar sizing, short-circuit withstand, temperature rise, and electrical clearance and creepage, supporting IEC 61439 verification and UL 891 documentation, and the applicable MV standards.
- Coordinate with the mechanical design team so electrical layouts, busbar arrangements, and enclosures fit together and meet the standards.
- Review drawings and markups against customer specifications and applicable standards before release.
- Answer technical queries from clients, mainly North American manufacturers, clearly and promptly.




- Contribute to our templates, checklists, and calculation tools as the engineering function grows.

What you bring (required)

- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8-10 years of experience in electrical design of switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, or power distribution equipment.
- Hands-on experience with both low voltage and medium voltage equipment.
- Strong working skill in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical for schematics and drawings.
- Working knowledge of these standards:
- LV: UL 891, UL 67, UL 845, UL 489, UL 1558, and IEC 61439.
- MV: UL 347, IEEE C37.20.2 (metal-clad switchgear), and IEEE C37.20.3 (metal-enclosed interrupter switchgear).
- Understanding of switchgear construction and components from manufacturers such as Eaton, ABB, Siemens, and Schneider Electric.
- Good written and spoken English for working with international clients.
- Attention to detail and the habit of catching problems before they reach the client.

Preferred

- Experience with Autocad or similar electrical CAD tools.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and with reading 3D assemblies and GA drawings.
- Bluebeam Revu for markups and review.
- Exposure to Excel/VBA or scripted calculation and BOM tools.
- Experience supporting UL or IEC certification, testing, or third-party review.
- Knowledge of protection and relay coordination for MV systems.
