ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced SAP Oil & Gas Functional Business Analyst to act as the functional bridge between the business, SAP delivery teams and our UiPath Test Automation Engineers. The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of SAP Oil & Gas (IS-Oil / S/4HANA for Oil & Gas) processes and will translate complex industry workflows into clear, testable scenarios that automation engineers can build, execute and maintain with confidence.
This role is central to the success of our test automation programme. You will ensure that automation engineers understand not just what to automate, but why each business process works the way it does, how SAP modules interact, and where integration points create risk. Your guidance will directly shape the coverage, accuracy and resilience of the automated regression suite.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functional Knowledge Transfer & Enablement
- Act as the primary functional subject matter expert for SAP Oil & Gas processes, guiding UiPath Test Automation Engineers through module functionality, transactions, master data and business rules.
- Conduct structured walkthroughs, demos and knowledge-transfer sessions on end-to-end Oil & Gas business workflows, explaining process intent, dependencies and expected system behaviour.
- Prepare and maintain functional documentation (process flows, business process maps, data dependency matrices and transaction guides) tailored for an automation audience.
- Respond to day-to-day functional queries from the automation team and resolve ambiguity quickly to keep automation development on schedule.
Test Scenario Design & Automation Support
- Analyse business requirements, functional specifications and process designs to identify critical test scenarios across business-as-usual, exception and edge cases.
- Define and document detailed test scenarios, test cases, preconditions, test data requirements and expected results in a format suitable for automation.
- Partner with automation engineers to prioritise processes for automation based on business criticality, transaction volume, change frequency and regression risk.
- Review automated test cases and UiPath workflows for functional accuracy, ensuring they validate the right business outcomes, postings and document flows.
- Identify and help prepare reusable, stable test data sets (materials, customers, vendors, contracts, plants, storage locations, pricing conditions) and advise on data refresh and dependency strategies.
- Support defect triage by distinguishing automation script failures from genuine functional defects, and liaise with SAP functional and development teams to resolve issues.
Integration & End-to-End Process Coverage
- Map and explain integration points between SAP Oil & Gas and core SAP modules (SD, MM, FI/CO, PM, QM, PP, EWM) as well as external systems such as terminal automation, SCADA, hydrocarbon accounting, pricing and third-party logistics platforms.
- Design end-to-end test scenarios that span multiple modules and interfaces (IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, APIs, middleware such as SAP PI/PO or SAP Integration Suite), validating data flow and reconciliation across systems.
- Ensure automated regression packs adequately cover high-risk integration touchpoints, financial postings and month-end processes.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Governance
- Work with Business Process Owners and key users to validate test scenarios and obtain sign-off on functional coverage.
- Assess the impact of SAP releases, support packs, enhancements and change requests on existing automated test suites, and advise on required updates.
- Promote best practices in requirement traceability, linking business requirements to test cases and automation coverage within the test management tool.
REQUIRED FUNCTIONAL EXPERTISE: SAP OIL & GAS Strong hands-on knowledge across several of the following SAP Oil & Gas areas is required:
Downstream
- HPM: Hydrocarbon Product Management (HPM), covering dual units of measure, temperature and density conversions, quantity conversion logic.
- Transportation & Distribution (TD): Bulk transport planning, shipment scheduling, load confirmation and delivery confirmation processes.
- Trader's & Scheduler's Workbench (TSW): Stock projection, nominations, bulk scheduling and ticketing.
- Exchanges: Exchange agreements, borrow/loan, netting and exchange settlement.
- Pricing: Formula-based and quotation-based pricing, marketing pricing and price determination.
- Inventory & Excise: Tank and silo management, physical inventory, gain/loss handling and excise duty processes.

Core SAP Integration
- Sound understanding of Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay,
Plan-to-Produce and Record-to-Report processes as they apply to Oil & Gas.
- Working knowledge of how Oil & Gas transactions drive financial postings and controlling objects in FI/CO.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience: 8–12 years of overall SAP functional experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on SAP Oil & Gas (IS-Oil and/or S/4HANA for Oil & Gas).
- Delivery: At least 2 full-lifecycle SAP implementations, rollouts or large support engagements within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Testing: Proven experience supporting testing activities (SIT, UAT and regression testing), including test scenario design and test data preparation.
- Automation: Experience working with test automation teams; exposure to UiPath Test Suite (Studio, Test Manager, Orchestrator) or comparable tools (Tricentis Tosca, Worksoft, SAP CBTA) is strongly preferred.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex business processes clearly to technical audiences who may not have an SAP or Oil & Gas background.
- Analytical: Strong analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Tools: Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps or similar tools for requirements and defect management.
- Methodology: Experience working within Agile/Scrum and hybrid delivery models.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field; an MBA is an advantage.
- SAP certification in a relevant functional area (SD, MM, FI/CO) or SAP Oil & Gas.
- Understanding of RPA concepts and automation design principles such as modular, reusable and data-driven test design.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Business process thinking with an end-to-end view of Oil & Gas value chains.
- Collaborative, coaching-oriented approach to working with technical teams.
- Ownership, accountability and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Automated regression suites provide comprehensive, functionally accurate coverage of critical business workflows and integration points.
- Functional defects are identified earlier in the lifecycle, reducing production incidents and release risk.
- Test scenarios, data and documentation are well structured, traceable and maintainable over successive SAP releases.
