Head of Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India (on-site)
Reports to: Plant Head / CEO
Type: Full-time, permanent The role
We are looking for the person who will build the quality function from the ground up in our new valve manufacturing project.
Responsibilities
Quality management system. Design, document and implement the QMS - manual, procedures and practical work instructions that are actually used on the shop floor, not a paper system written for auditors. Document and records control.
Supplier qualification and audit. Qualify and audit suppliers of raw material, bought-out components and outsourced services — machining, heat treatment, NDT, calibration. Approved vendor list, supplier audits, source and incoming inspection, supplier non-conformance management.
Special process qualification and traceability. Qualify welding, hardfacing and heat treatment - WPS, PQR and WPQ under ASME Section IX; welder and operator qualification and continuity. Establish full traceability of materials and components, including heat numbers and EN 10204 type 3.1 / 3.2 certification.
Test area, test methods and calibration. Set up the inspection and test area, write the test and inspection procedures, and establish the calibration programme with measurement traceability to national standards.
Equipment procurement. Specify and participate in the selection and purchase of inspection, test and measuring equipment, including vendor audits.
Team. Recruit, train and qualify the QA/QC team - NDT personnel certification, welder qualification, inspector authorisation.
Certification and code compliance. Prepare for and pass ISO audits - ISO 9001 and ISO 19443 first,
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 as scope extends. Ensure compliance with API, ASME and ASTM requirements.
Quality Plans and production readiness. Develop and agree Quality Plans with the customer and the authorised organisation, including hold and witness points. Prepare for and pass production readiness inspections, at our facility and at sub-suppliers.
In-process quality control. Organize inspection at every stage of production - incoming, in-process and final - and own the release decision.
Certification dossier and inspections. Compile the certification documentation package for each order and host inspections by the customer, the authorised organisation and third parties.
Non-conformance and corrective action. Develop and implement NCR and CAPA procedures — identification and segregation, classification, disposition, root cause analysis, concession handling, re-inspection after repair and closure verification. Trend analysis to correct processes, not only parts.
Experience we are looking for
Essential
- 10+ years in quality for valves, pressure equipment or similar critical equipment, including at least 5 years on nuclear-classified products.
- Proven experience building a quality management system from zero and taking it through certification - not only maintaining an inherited one.
- Personally faced and passed customer, third-party and regulatory audits of a manufacturing facility.
- Working command of ASME Section IX, able to review and approve WPS, PQR and welder qualifications yourself.
- NDT qualification to ISO 9712 or SNT-TC-1A Level II across the principal methods; Level III, or the ability to own the written practice, strongly preferred.
- Hands-on supplier qualification and source inspection experience, particularly with forging and casting suppliers.
- Practical command of the applicable codes: ASME Sections II, V, VIII and IX; ASME B16.34; API 598 and API 600 series; ASTM material specifications; ISO 19443.
- Fluent written and spoken English - you will write procedures that a foreign auditor reads line by line.
Preferred
- Direct experience with energy / nuclear supply chain procedures and its documentation system.
- Lead auditor certification for ISO 9001 and/or ISO 19443.
- Greenfield plant or recent production line start-up experience.
- Familiarity with hardfacing (PTA / Stellite) and helium leak testing.
This role is not for you if
Your experience is maintaining a system someone else designed, or you expect to manage a large established team from day one. In the first phase the team is small and you will be writing the documents yourself.
To apply
Send your CV with a short note answering one question:
Describe a quality system you built from scratch - what you designed, which certification it achieved, and the hardest audit finding you had to close.
We read those notes carefully. They matter more to us than the CV.
