Product Designer II

Bangalore, India

Experience: 2-4 Years The role

You'll shape how vehicle owners and drivers run their business with Porter, whether they're on the road delivering or managing a fleet of vehicles. Your work needs to serve all of them, from someone completing an order between trips to someone keeping several vehicles and drivers productive. You'll own projects end to end, working closely with product managers, engineers, researchers and visual designers.

What you'll do

- Understand your users deeply. Learn their routines, motivations and pain points through field visits, research, support insights and data.
- Frame the problem. Work with PMs to understand the goals, metrics, data, past experiments and competitors behind each problem, and break the scope into user stories.
- Challenge conventions. Question patterns borrowed from consumer apps, build concepts from first principles, and bring original ideas.
- Design whole journeys, not single screens. Explore several approaches and present the trade-offs to build conviction with your team and leadership.
- Design for real-world conditions. Account for low-end devices, patchy networks, vernacular languages and varied literacy, and cover every edge, empty and error state.
- Execute with craft. Deliver detailed designs with full case coverage, run tech walkthroughs, and do QC and UAT before launch.
- Close the loop. Set success metrics with PMs, track results after launch in Amplitude, and iterate.
- Think and contribute beyond your projects. Proactively spot opportunities and propose ideas and features that could shape where Porter goes next. Contribute to the design system, critiques and processes, and share what you learn through blogs and talks.

How we expect you to use AI

Think first, then use AI as a tool. Form your own view of the problem and the solution before you use AI tools such as Figma AI, Claude, v0 or Cursor to speed up exploration,

synthesis or prototyping. Judge their output critically. AI is never a substitute for understanding real users.

Who you are

- Empathy-driven. You genuinely care about the people you design for. You listen patiently, respect how they actually work, and design to reduce their effort and anxiety.
- User-obsessed. You seek out first-hand understanding, you're comfortable in the field talking to users, and you test every decision against whether it makes their day easier.
- Accessibility-minded. You treat accessibility as a core part of good design, not a final checklist. You design to WCAG 2.2 AA and think about contrast, touch targets, readable type, screen readers, and users with low literacy or low digital confidence.
- A strong visual storyteller. You use visuals, icons, illustration and motion to explain ideas and guide users, showing rather than telling. You present your work as a compelling story that brings stakeholders along.
- An original, unconventional thinker. You question the obvious answer, develop bold concepts, and can explain why a new approach beats the standard one. Your work shows a recognisable point of view and taste.
- Strong in craft. You have strong interaction and visual design skills, and you understand motion well enough to spec transitions and micro-interactions for visual designers and engineers.
- An advanced Figma user. You're fluent with variables, auto-layout, components and prototyping.
- Comfortable with lightweight research, including usability tests, interviews and analytics.
- Curious and always learning.

You keep picking up current domains, skills and tools, and you ask for feedback and act on it.
- Strong in soft skills. You communicate clearly in writing and in person, listen actively, collaborate well, share disagreement openly, and own your outcomes.

Nice to have: experience designing for gig workers, fleet owners or drivers, or for Bharat and emerging-market users · marketplace, logistics or fintech experience · prototyping in code or with AI builders · design system contributions · ProtoPie, Rive or Lottie.

What we'll look for in your portfolio

- 2–3 shipped case studies that show problem framing, trade-offs and measurable outcomes.
- How you understood your users, including moments where research changed your direction.
- Design decisions made for real-world constraints such as literacy, language, device, network or context of use.
- Evidence of original thinking: the approaches you explored and rejected, and why yours was better.
