About the Role

Our consulting client is looking for a hands-on HR Manager to build and lead the people function as the company scales its delivery centres in Siliguri and Bengaluru. This role combines technical recruitment, HR operations and statutory compliance, people engagement, and HR strategy.

You will own the full employee lifecycle, lead a small HR team, establish scalable HR processes, and partner directly with the COO and founders on workforce planning, organisation design, compensation benchmarking, and company culture. The ideal candidate has strong technical recruitment experience in an IT, SaaS, product, or technology company, alongside practical knowledge of Indian labour laws and HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Recruitment

- Own full-cycle hiring for AI/ML engineers, full-stack (MERN) developers, DevOps, QA, product, sales and support roles.
- Work with hiring managers to define roles, write job descriptions, and establish structured interview and assessment processes.
- Source candidates through LinkedIn, Naukri, Instahyre, employee referrals, communities and direct outreach.
- Build campus and internship hiring partnerships with engineering colleges in North Bengal, the North-East and beyond.
- Manage offers, salary negotiation, background checks and a smooth candidate experience.
- Track hiring metrics such as time-to-hire, offer acceptance, source quality and cost per hire.

HR Operations and Compliance

- Manage the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, documentation, confirmation, transfers, exits and full-and-final settlement.

- Maintain employee records and the HRMS, ensuring HR data remains accurate and confidential.
- Coordinate monthly payroll inputs, attendance and leave with the finance team.
- Ensure statutory compliance, including PF, ESI, Professional Tax (West Bengal and Karnataka), Shops and Establishments registration, gratuity and the POSH Act, including the Internal Committee.
- Draft and update HR policies, the employee handbook, appointment letters, internship agreements and other HR documents.
- Handle employee relations, grievances and disciplinary processes fairly and in line with policy.

People Engagement and Development

- Design and run the annual performance review cycle, goal setting and 30/60/90-day plans for new joiners.
- Plan engagement activities, recognition programmes, town halls and team events across both delivery centres.
- Run pulse surveys and stay interviews, and act on the results to improve retention.
- Coordinate learning and development, including technical upskilling, certifications and induction programmes.
- Build the employer brand, especially as a leading technology employer in Siliguri and the North-East.

Team Leadership and HR Strategy

- Lead, coach and set targets for the HR Executive and HR trainee.
- Partner with the founders on workforce planning, organisation design and compensation benchmarking.
- Report monthly on headcount, attrition, hiring pipeline and HR costs.

Required Skills / What You Bring

- MBA or PG Diploma in HR, or equivalent qualification.
- 6 to 10 years of HR experience,

including at least 3 years hiring technical roles in an IT, SaaS or product company.
- Sound understanding of software and AI roles, enough to screen candidates credibly and brief hiring managers.
- Working knowledge of Indian labour law and statutory compliance, including PF, ESI, PT, gratuity, POSH, and Shops and Establishments.
- Hands-on experience with an HRMS and applicant tracking system (ATS).
- Strong drafting skills for HR policies, letters and communications.
- High standards of confidentiality, fairness and judgement.
- Excellent communication in English; Hindi and Bengali preferred.

Good to Have

- Experience setting up HR in a start-up or a new office.
- Experience hiring in North Bengal or the North-East, with an existing network of colleges and talent communities.
- Exposure to international hiring or UK employment practices.
- Familiarity with HR analytics and dashboards in Excel or similar tools.

What Success Looks Like

- First 30 days: Review current HR processes and records, and establish an active hiring pipeline for all open roles.
- First 90 days: Establish clear onboarding, documentation and compliance checklists, update the HRMS, and fill priority technical roles.
- First 6 months: Implement the first structured performance cycle and engagement calendar, establish campus partnerships, and report attrition and hiring metrics monthly.

What We Offer

- Competitive salary benchmarked to experience and the market.
- Direct exposure to international enterprise clients in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
- A founding-stage role with real ownership and a visible path to grow with the company.
- Paid leave, health insurance and statutory benefits as per company policy.
- The prospect to build the HR function of a growing AI company from the ground up.
- Direct partnership with the founders on people and culture.
