ROLE PURPOSE
Establish and lead the BIOS/UEFI function for our laptop products. The leader will own firmware vendor selection, technical licensing inputs, architecture, customization, security, integration, validation, production release, field updates and the roadmap for building an internal firmware team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end BIOS/UEFI lifecycle from vendor evaluation and platform bring-up through mass production and post-launch support.
- Evaluate and govern ODM/IFV firmware; define required source access, build/debug artifacts, customization rights, maintenance, security support and escalation terms with Legal and Procurement.
- Lead BIOS/UEFI customization and integration across motherboard, EC firmware, silicon, Windows, drivers, ACPI, SMBIOS, power, thermals and platform security.
- Diagnose complex boot, stability, battery, heating, sleep/wake, performance, peripheral and firmware-update issues; isolate ownership and drive vendors to root-cause closure.
- Own Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, measured boot, hardware root of trust, firmware signing, rollback protection, secure recovery and production lockdown.
- Define firmware validation, release governance, versioning, capsule/update strategy,
manufacturing provisioning and Windows HLK support.
- Build and mentor the future BIOS/UEFI, EC, platform-security, integration and validation team while defining internal-versus-vendor ownership.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
- Shipped commercial laptops, notebooks, client PCs or workstations, preferably from architecture/bring-up through production and lifecycle support.
- Deep BIOS/UEFI architecture and source-level debugging experience with EDK II/TianoCore or commercial implementations such as AMI, Insyde or Phoenix.
- Strong knowledge of SEC/PEI/DXE/BDS, ACPI, SMBIOS, EC integration, x86 platform initialization, S0ix/Up-to-date Standby, firmware updates and recovery.
- Hands-on vendor leadership across laptop ODMs, firmware vendors and silicon providers, including review of code changes, logs, root-cause analysis and release quality.
- Practical debugging exposure using JTAG/ITP/DCI, UART/POST logs, flash tools, logic/protocol analyzers and Windows power/performance tools.
- Ability to establish a new platform-firmware function in an organization entering laptop product development.
