Head of India Operations

Location: India

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer / Executive Leadership

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Head of India Operations to build and lead our India-based team from the ground up.

This is not a traditional outsourcing or staffing-company role. We are building our own long-term team in India and are looking for a leader who can help us establish the operation, recruit strong talent, create the right culture and processes, and serve as our senior leader on the ground.

Initially, the role will focus heavily on recruiting and building technology, product, data, technical operations, and other operational capabilities. As the organization grows, this person will take broader responsibility for the performance, development, and day-to-day operations of our India team.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on. In the beginning, this may mean personally sourcing candidates, conducting initial interviews, helping establish local vendors and processes, and solving operational issues. Over time, the role will evolve into leading and scaling the broader India organization.

Key Responsibilities

Build the India Organization

Establish and grow our direct India-based workforce.

Develop an India hiring strategy aligned with company priorities and growth plans.

Identify the best talent markets and recruiting channels for the roles we need.

Build a strong employer presence and candidate pipeline in India.

Help determine when and where additional recruiting, HR, office, or administrative resources are needed.

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

Own recruiting for our initial India hires.

Source and screen candidates directly rather than relying primarily on staffing agencies.

Build relationships with recruiters, universities, professional networks, and other talent sources when appropriate.

Partner with U.S.-based leaders to define job requirements and evaluate candidates.

Establish compensation benchmarks and help ensure offers are competitive with the Indian technology market.

Develop scalable recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding processes.

Team Leadership

Serve as the senior company leader for employees based in India.

Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, ownership, quality, and collaboration.

Help managers establish goals and performance expectations for India-based employees.

Identify and develop future team leads and managers.

Monitor employee engagement, performance, retention, and career development.

Ensure strong communication and collaboration between the India and U.S. teams.

India Operations

Help establish the operational infrastructure required to employ and support staff in India.

Coordinate payroll, benefits, HR administration, employment compliance, and other local requirements.

Manage relationships with local service providers where appropriate.

Help evaluate employment structures such as Employer of Record (EOR), local entity formation, and direct employment as the organization scales.

Establish policies and processes appropriate for the India operation while remaining aligned with company-wide standards.

Support office or coworking-space requirements if and when a physical presence becomes necessary.

Technology & Operational Talent

Initial recruiting will likely include roles across:

Software Engineering

DevOps / Cloud Engineering

Data Engineering and Analytics

QA / Test Automation

Product and Business Analysis

Technical Operations

Application Support

Security and Infrastructure

Digital Marketing

Other operational and back-office functions as the India organization expands The Head of India Operations does not need to be the technical architect for these functions but should understand technology organizations well enough to identify strong candidates, work effectively with technical leadership, and build high-performing teams.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in operations, technology organizations, talent acquisition, HR leadership, engineering operations, or related roles in India.

Experience building or significantly scaling an India-based organization.

Strong knowledge of the Indian technology talent market.

Demonstrated ability to recruit technology professionals directly.

Experience working with U.S.-based or other international organizations.

Strong understanding of Indian employment practices, compensation structures, benefits, and hiring processes.

Experience managing distributed or cross-border teams.

Excellent English communication skills.

Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment with limited existing infrastructure.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:

Fintech or payments

Banking or financial services

SaaS platforms

Software development organizations

Cloud infrastructure and DevOps

Data and analytics

PCI DSS or regulated environments

Building offshore or global capability centers

Experience transitioning organizations from outsourced/vendor resources to directly employed teams is especially valuable.

What Success Looks Like

During the first 6–12 months, success in this role will mean:

Establishing a repeatable direct-hiring capability in India.

Building a strong initial team across priority technology and operational functions.

Reducing dependence on third-party staffing and outsourcing firms.

Establishing competitive compensation and benefits structures.

Creating effective onboarding, management, and performance processes.

Building strong collaboration between the India and U.S. organizations.

Creating a scalable foundation that allows the India organization to continue growing efficiently.

The Chance

This is an opportunity to build something rather than inherit it.

The person joining us will have significant influence over how our India organization is structured, who we hire, the culture we create, and how the organization evolves.

We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term leader within the company and build a team that operates as an integrated part of our organization—not simply as an offshore resource pool.

Pay: ₹150,000.00 - ₹300,000.00 per month
