Role Description The Head of Department Mathematics is a full-time, on-site role located in Chennai, responsible for leading the Mathematics department across the IB continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP). This role involves designing and aligning the Mathematics curriculum with IB standards, overseeing unit planning, assessment practices, and vertical articulation of concepts and skills. The Head of Department will mentor and support Mathematics educators through regular coaching, collaborative planning meetings, and professional development.

Daily responsibilities include observing lessons, providing feedback, analyzing student achievement data, and implementing strategies to improve outcomes. The role also requires close collaboration with school leadership, participation in IB authorization and evaluation processes, coordination of resources,



and active engagement with students and families to foster a positive learning culture in Mathematics.

Qualifications

- Advanced knowledge of Mathematics and robust understanding of IB PYP, MYP, and DP frameworks, including inquiry-based and concept-driven learning.
- Proven experience in curriculum design, assessment planning, and academic coordination within an international or IB school setting.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a department, mentoring teachers, facilitating collaborative planning, and driving school improvement initiatives.
- Excellent classroom practice, with expertise in differentiation, use of formative and summative assessment, and integration of technology to enhance learning.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Relevant teaching qualification and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field; IB training or certification is highly desirable.
- Experience in data-informed decision-making, documentation for IB authorization/evaluation, and organizing academic events such as math fairs or competitions.
- Commitment to continuous professional learning, student well-being, inclusive education, and alignment with the school’s mission and values.
