Key Responsibilities

- Exams and Screenings: Perform routine physical exams, pelvic exams, breast exams, Pap smears, HPV tests, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) screenings. [1, 2]
- Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnose and treat conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and menstrual disorders. [1, 2, 3]
- Family Planning and Counseling: Advise patients on birth control options, contraception, fertility challenges, and menopause management (including hormone replacement therapy). [1, 2, 3]
- Surgeries and Procedures: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures like colposcopies, ultrasounds, biopsies, laparoscopies, hysteroscopies, and hysterectomies. If trained in obstetrics, they also manage prenatal care, labor, and deliveries (including C-sections). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Patient Education & Records: Maintain confidential medical files, explain test results clearly, and refer patients to sub-specialists when necessary. [1, 2, 3]

Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Medical degree (MD or DO), followed by a dedicated residency in obstetrics and gynecology (typically 3 to 7 years). [1, 2, 3]
- Licensure and Certification: Valid state or national medical license,



board certification (such as the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the U.S. or equivalent national medical council recognition), and appropriate DEA or prescribing credentials. [1, 2]
- Core Skills: Solid clinical judgment, precision with medical instruments, active listening, empathy, and the ability to handle high-pressure emergency delivery or surgical environments. [1, 2]

Work Environment
- Typically work in private medical practices, specialized women’s health clinics, multi-specialty groups, or hospital departments (including operating rooms and labor and delivery wards).
