We are looking for an exceptional Ghostwriter to work directly with the author on developing and writing a full-length non-fiction book.

This is not a conventional content-writing role.

The author has a strong personal voice and a wealth of ideas, experiences, observations, and perspectives, but needs an experienced writer who can listen deeply, ask the right questions, identify the underlying narrative, structure complex thoughts, and turn them into compelling long-form writing.

You will work closely with the author throughout the process — from developing the book's central thesis and structure to interviews, research, chapter development, writing, rewriting, and final manuscript preparation.

The ideal person is someone who can make the reader feel that the author wrote every word, even though you are doing the writing.

What You'll Do

- Develop the Book

- Work closely with the author to understand the book's core idea, philosophy, argument, and intended audience.
- Conduct extensive conversations/interviews with the author to extract stories, experiences, insights, opinions, and personal anecdotes.
- Help identify the strongest themes and ideas within the author's thinking.
- Develop the book's overall concept, narrative direction, chapter structure, and progression.
- Challenge weak ideas and ask difficult questions when necessary.
- Help turn fragmented thoughts and conversations into a coherent intellectual and emotional journey.

2. Write the Manuscript
- Write original chapters based on conversations, notes, recordings, research, and material provided by the author.
- Preserve the author's voice, personality, worldview, vocabulary, humour, intensity, and way of thinking.
- Transform spoken ideas and raw thoughts into polished, engaging prose without making them sound artificially “literary.”
- Create strong openings, transitions, arguments, stories, and chapter endings.
- Balance storytelling, personal experiences, ideas, and research where appropriate.
- Rewrite extensively based on the author's feedback.

3. Research & Fact-Checking
- Conduct independent research where required.
- Find credible sources, studies, historical references, examples, and supporting material.
- Verify factual claims and flag anything that requires clarification or additional evidence.
- Maintain research notes and source references throughout the writing process.

4. Editorial Collaboration
- Participate in regular calls with the author.
- Present chapter outlines and drafts for discussion.
- Be comfortable receiving extensive feedback and rewriting accordingly.

- Help identify inconsistencies, repetitive arguments, missing context, and opportunities to strengthen the manuscript.
- Work collaboratively rather than treating the assignment as a simple “write and deliver” project.

5. Final Manuscript
- Deliver a professionally structured, polished manuscript ready for editorial review/publishing.
- Maintain consistency in tone, terminology, narrative voice, and formatting across the entire book.
- Assist with the final rounds of edits and revisions.

What We're Looking ForMust Have
- Proven experience writing long-form non-fiction, preferably books.
- Exceptional command of written English.
- Strong storytelling and narrative-writing ability.
- Ability to turn conversations and unstructured thoughts into compelling written material.
- Strong interviewing and listening skills.
- Ability to understand and reproduce another person's voice authentically.
- Strong research and fact-checking ability.
- Excellent structural and editorial thinking.
- Comfortable with extensive rewriting and iteration.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.

Strongly Preferred

Experience with one or more of:

- Memoir / autobiography
- Personal philosophy
- Business / entrepreneurship
- Psychology and human behaviour
- Culture and society
- Personal development
- Essays / intellectual non-fiction
- Founder stories
- First-person narrative
- Books built around interviews and conversations

Previous experience as a ghostwriter, book collaborator, developmental editor, journalist, long-form writer, or published author is a strong advantage.

The Most Important Skill

You must be able to listen to someone for hours and understand what they are actually trying to say — even when they haven't figured out how to articulate it themselves.

The author may give you a 60-minute conversation containing five different ideas, three stories, an argument, a contradiction, and several unfinished thoughts.

Your job is to identify the book hidden inside that conversation.

You should be able to say:

“This is actually the argument you're making.”

…and then turn that understanding into a chapter that feels completely natural to the author.

What This Role Is NOT

This is not a role for someone who simply:

- Rewrites AI-generated content
- Produces generic motivational writing
- Writes SEO articles
- Fills pages with unnecessary words
- Imposes their own writing style on the author
- Treats the author's ideas as prompts rather than source material
- Needs everything to be perfectly structured before they can begin writing

We are looking for a thinking writer, not just a wordsmith.

Working Style The process will likely involve:

Author conversation → Recording/notes → Writer's interpretation → Chapter outline → Draft → Discussion → Rewrite → Final chapter

You should be comfortable with an iterative process and frequent interaction with the author.

The author may change direction, discover new ideas during conversations, or completely rethink a chapter after seeing it written.

That is part of the process.

Deliverables

Depending on the final scope, the engagement may include:

- Book concept development
- Detailed book outline
- Chapter-by-chapter outlines
- Author interviews
- Research
- Full manuscript
- Multiple rounds of revisions
- Fact-checking
- Final manuscript editing
- Supporting book materials where required

Target manuscript length: approximately 50,000–80,000 words, subject to the final concept and structure.

Compensation

Compensation will be discussed based on:

- Relevant experience
- Previous published work
- Scope of the project
- Expected manuscript length
- Research requirements
- Level of involvement in book development

Please include your expected project fee or fee range when applying.

How to Apply

Please send

- Your CV / professional profile
- 3–5 relevant writing samples
- Details of any books you have written, co-written, ghostwritten, or edited
- A brief description of your experience working with authors or founders
- Your expected fee for a full-length book project
- Your availability over the next 3–6 months
- A short note explaining how you approach capturing another person's voice

Important: Please do not send generic AI-generated cover letters.

We are much more interested in how you think and write than in how well you can write a conventional job application.

The ideal candidate is

A great listener.

A sharp thinker.

A reliable writer.

A curious researcher.

A ruthless editor.

And, above all, someone who can disappear behind the author's voice.

If you believe the best ghostwriter is the one the reader never notices, we'd like to hear from you.

Pay: From ₹60,000.00 per month
