About Thagai
Ageing isn't a one-time problem to solve. People's needs, routines, health, and social connections change over time. But the support around them is often fragmented, reactive, and disconnected.
Thagai is building a continuous layer of care, connection, and support around older adults.
We bring together families, trusted support networks, and community-led engagement to help older adults stay independent, socially connected, and supported as they age.
Our vision is to build a longitudinal understanding of every older adult, identifying early signs of decline, recognising changing needs, and making ageing well a continuous journey, not just a response to a crisis.
Helping older adults stay independent, connected, and engaged in the life they love.
More than adding years to life, we're here to add life to those years.
About the role An opportunity to learn how businesses are built by building one yourself.
At Thagai, we're building a new way for India to care for its ageing parents. We're building in a space with enormous potential, where some of the most interesting problems are still waiting to be solved.
As part of the team, you'll get to work on questions that don't have ready-made answers.
How do you build something people genuinely want to be part of? How do you find the right customers, discover new growth opportunities and turn a promising idea into a repeatable business? How do you build systems that work not just today, but as the company grows?
You'll get to explore these questions firsthand, working across growth, strategy, partnerships and operations. From researching a new opportunity and designing experiments to building relationships, launching initiatives and figuring out what works, you'll have the opportunity to take ideas from a blank page to the real world.
There's no fixed playbook here. You'll have the space to think independently, challenge assumptions, experiment with your ideas and take ownership of what you build.
If you've ever wanted to understand how a startup goes from an idea to a business, this is your chance to be part of that journey.
What you'll work on
1. Growth & Go-to-Market
- Plan and execute user & supply acquisition campaigns (social media, campus events, etc.) and help shape go-to-market strategy for recent initiatives.
- Identify and test new channels and partnerships (college programs, community groups, etc.) to reach more older adults and families.
- Design and run growth experiments to understand what drives acquisition, activation and repeat participation.
- Analyse results, identify what works and build repeatable acquisition strategies.
2. Business Operations
- Help build the systems and processes that make our service reliable as we grow.
- Improve the journey from discovering Thagai to joining the network and participating in the service.
- Identify operational bottlenecks, investigate their causes and implement solutions.
- Build simple workflows and tracking systems that help us execute consistently.
3. Customer & Market Discovery
- Conduct user research: interview older adults, family members, and community partners to understand their needs, motivations, and challenges.
- Research the market, study alternative solutions and identify opportunities for Thagai.
- Translate customer insights into better acquisition strategies, service experiences and operating processes.
- Challenge assumptions and help us make better decisions based on evidence.
4. Strategic Projects
- Take ownership of important business problems as they emerge.
- Turn ambiguous challenges into structured plans and execute them.
- Work across growth, partnerships, operations and customer experience based on business priorities.
- Measure outcomes, share learnings and identify the next opportunities to improve.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone with the drive to make things happen, the curiosity to ask better questions,
and the initiative to turn ideas into action.
This role is ideal for final-year college students, recent graduates (within the last 2–3 years), and early-career individuals who want to explore entrepreneurship and learn how businesses are built.
You might have built a community, started a project, led an initiative, organised something from scratch, or taken responsibility for making something work better. What matters is not the title you held, but what you did with the responsibility you had.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Take initiative instead of waiting for instructions.
- Enjoy breaking down unfamiliar problems and finding practical solutions.
- Are curious about how businesses acquire customers, build systems and grow.
- Can communicate clearly, build relationships and follow through.
- Are comfortable experimenting, learning from failure and improving your approach.
- Want to take on responsibility and see the impact of your work.
You don't need previous startup experience. But we want to see evidence that you've taken initiative somewhere, whether in college, a project, an organisation or something you've built independently.
What you'll get to build
1. Turn ideas into action : Work on real business problems, test your ideas, and take initiatives from the drawing board to execution.
2. Understand how businesses grow : Explore growth, go-to-market strategy, customer discovery, partnerships, and operations to understand how a business comes together and scales.
3. Own problems end to end : Go beyond completing assigned tasks. Identify problems, figure out possible solutions, implement them, and measure what works.
4. Build something that matters : Ageing is one of India's biggest long-term challenges. Be part of building a better support system that helps older adults stay independent, socially connected, and supported as they age.
This is a paid, hybrid internship based in Chennai.
If you're curious about startups, enjoy solving problems and want to help build something meaningful from an early stage, we'd love to hear from you.
