: Digital/FPGA Design Engineer (6-8 Years Experience)

Design and develop FPGA-based digital systems for satellite applications, including payload processing, data handling, and high-speed interfaces. Collaborate with hardware, RF, and software teams to ensure reliable, radiation-tolerant, and high-performance implementations. Drive end-to-end FPGA lifecycle from architecture and coding through verification, integration, in-orbit support for Satcom payloads, including firmware, DSP, Software Defined Radio (SDR), and advanced digital architectures for satellites.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop FPGA-based digital systems for satellite payloads, avionics, and onboard data handling
- Define FPGA architecture, including data paths, interfaces, memory structures, and processing pipelines
- Develop RTL code using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog for high-performance and reliable operation
- Implement and optimize signal processing algorithms (DSP, filtering, encoding/decoding, compression) on FPGA
- Perform FPGA synthesis, place & route, and timing closure using tools such as Xilinx Vivado and Intel Quartus
- Conduct functional verification using simulation tools (ModelSim, QuestaSim, Vivado Simulator)
- Knowledge of SDR architectures, real-time firmware, and interfaces like JESD204, Aurora for high-speed data in Satcom payloads.
- Develop and execute verification strategies including testbenches,

assertions, and coverage analysis
- Perform hardware-software co-design and integration with embedded processors (SoC/FPGA platforms)
- Interface with high-speed communication protocols (SpaceWire, LVDS, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, PCIe as applicable)
- Optimize FPGA designs for power, area, performance, and radiation tolerance
- Support selection and usage of space-grade or radiation-tolerant FPGAs
- Implement fault-tolerant designs (TMR, redundancy, error detection and correction) for space reliability
- Work closely with hardware teams for board-level integration and signal integrity considerations
- Collaborate with software/firmware teams for driver development and system integration
- Perform bring-up, debugging, and validation on hardware platforms
- Develop and maintain scripts (TCL, Python) for automation of build, simulation, and testing workflows
- Support EMI/EMC considerations and ensure compliance with system requirements
- Develop test plans and support system-level testing, including functional and environmental validation
- Troubleshoot design issues and perform root cause analysis across FPGA, hardware, and software domains
- Maintain detailed technical documentation including design specifications, verification reports, and user guides

- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure adherence to ECSS/NASA/ISRO standards
- Support launch campaigns, in-orbit commissioning, and anomaly resolution
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership and best practices

Desirable Skills & Certifications:

- Solid proficiency in RTL design using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog and digital design fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado and Intel Quartus
- Expertise in FPGA verification methodologies using tools like ModelSim/QuestaSim and SystemVerilog/UVM
- Experience with high-speed interfaces and protocols (LVDS, SPI, I2C, SpaceWire, Ethernet, PCIe)
- Strong understanding of timing analysis, timing closure, and optimization for power, area, and performance
- Knowledge of DSP implementation on FPGA (filters, FFTs, encoding/decoding, signal processing pipelines)
- Experience with SoC/FPGA platforms (e.g., Zynq) and hardware-software co-design
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using TCL, Python, or shell scripting
- Understanding of radiation effects and fault-tolerant design techniques (TMR, ECC, redundancy) for space applications
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations and board-level integration aspects
- Experience with lab bring-up, debugging, and hardware validation using test equipment

Personal Attributes

- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional, engineering-focused teams.
- Curious and eager to stay updated with new technologies and component trends.
