Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design & Fabrication Specialist to serve as the critical bridge between engineering design and actual shop-floor manufacturing. In this role, you will review and approve completed 3D models and 2D machine assembly/detail drawings before they are released for production. You will verify design feasibility, material selection, GD&T;, and tolerances, ensuring every part can be efficiently fabricated, welded, machined, and assembled with minimal rework or delay.

Key Responsibilities1. Shop-Floor Leadership & Production Execution

- 1. Drawing & Design Verification (Design for Manufacturability - DFM)

- Comprehensive Drawing Audit: Thoroughly review 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication/machining drawings for complete dimensions, geometric tolerances (GD&T;), fitments, and surface finishes.

1. Material & Specification Compliance

- Material Selection Checking: Verify that chosen metals, alloys, polymers, and hardware (fasteners, bearings, seals) match functional requirements, load constraints, and environmental conditions.
- Standards Adherence: Ensure drawings conform to international design and drafting standards (ISO, ASME, DIN, or local codes).
- Bill of Materials (BOM) Validation: Cross-check the engineering BOM against drawing callouts, material stock sizes, standard components, and structural profiles.

1. Fabrication & Assembly Optimization (DFA)

- Assembly Feasibility: Check tolerance stacks and clearance loops to prevent interference issues during physical assembly.
- Tool Access & Rigging: Confirm adequate clearance for tools, welding guns, torque wrenches,



hoisting lugs, and maintenance access.
- Cost & Scrap Reduction: Identify design modifications that reduce material waste, simplify machining operations, or shorten fabrication cycles.

1. Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Interdepartmental Liaison: Work directly with CAD designers, welding supervisors, machinists, quality control inspectors, and procurement teams to resolve engineering queries prior to release.
- ECO/ECN Management: Authorize and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) based on shop-floor feedback and manufacturing constraints.
- Vendor & Supplier Technical Support: Clarify technical drawings and material specifications for external vendors and sub-contractors.

Qualifications & Skill RequirementsTechnical Skills & Knowledge
- Core Expertise: Deep practical knowledge of sheet metal operations (laser cutting, bending, forming), structural fabrication, MIG/TIG welding, CNC machining, heat treatment, and surface finishing.
- Standards & GD&T;: Master-level understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and weld symbol interpretation (AWS D1.1 / ISO 2553).
- Material Science: Practical understanding of ferrous/non-ferrous metals, material grade equivalents, heat treatments, corrosion resistance, and thermal expansion.

Education & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience combining CAD design review with direct workshop/fabrication floor experience (Toolroom Specialist, Fabrication Inspector, Design Checker).
- Manufacturing Feasibility: Evaluate designs using practical shop-floor knowledge to ensure parts can be cut, bent, machined, welded, or cast efficiently using available machinery and tooling.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
