Data Governance Specialist Department None About the Role We are looking for an experienced Data Governance specialist to join Crisil’s Data Office.
The Data
Office has completed a DCAM-based maturity assessment and is now moving from assessment into embedding data governance as business-as-usual practice across Crisil’s businesses and corporate functions.
This role is central to that shift: converting the governance framework, policies and standards into operating practice with data owners and stewards, and sustaining it. The role covers policy and standards, ownership and stewardship, data quality and data classification, and works closely with the OpenMetadata implementation team so that governance is enabled through Crisil’s enterprise data catalogue. It is a hands-on delivery role working day to day with business, Corporate Technology and control functions.
Key Responsibilities • Maintain and evolve Crisil’s data governance framework – the Data Management Framework, Data Management Policy and discipline-level standards – and drive their review, approval and publication cycle with business and technology stakeholders. Author the procedures and stewardship guidelines that follow once standards are approved.
- Establish and run the data ownership and stewardship model: identify and onboard data owners and stewards by domain, set up and facilitate domain working groups and governance forums, and keep the ownership register current.
- Define and embed data quality practice: work with business and technology teams to define critical data elements, data quality rules and thresholds, stand up measurement and issue-management routines, and report data quality status to the Data Office.
- Partner with the OpenMetadata implementation lead to make the catalogue the system of record for governance:
define data domains, ownership and stewardship assignments, business glossary terms and classifications in the catalogue, and validate that onboarded metadata meets governance requirements. Track governance KPIs such as metadata coverage, glossary completeness and stewardship participation.
- Support data classification and sensitivity labelling in partnership with Information Security and Corporate Technology, ensuring classifications are defined consistently and reflected across the catalogue and enterprise tooling.
- Prepare governance reporting, forum papers and status updates for the Data Office, Architecture Review Board and other governance forums.
- Support the Head of Data Governance on DCAM remediation tracking, governance deliverables for Data Office engagements with business and corporate functions, and the data literacy programme for data owners and stewards. What We’re Looking For Must have • 6–9 years of experience in data governance or data management roles within an enterprise data office, governance programme or data management function – preferably in financial services, ratings, research or a similar regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience running governance operations: setting up or operating data ownership and stewardship models, data quality rules and issue management, or governance forums in a large organisation.
- Working knowledge of data governance frameworks and practices – DAMA-DMBOK or equivalent – and the ability to translate policies and standards into practical workflows, controls and SOPs.
- Experience working within a data catalogue or metadata management platform (e.g. OpenMetadata, Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon/EDC) in a governance capacity: domains, glossary, ownership, classification and lineage.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work across business, technology and control functions and to explain governance concepts to non-technical audiences. Good to have • Hands-on experience implementing or configuring a data catalogue or metadata platform, beyond governance use of the tool.
- Exposure to DCAM or another formal data management maturity assessment and its remediation.
- Experience with data classification and sensitivity labelling tooling (e.g.
Microsoft
Purview).
- Experience developing data literacy or stewardship training material.
