Retired CBIC Officer – Tax & Regulatory Consultant Position Overview

We are seeking a retired officer of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to provide short-term, part-time consultancy and expert guidance to our organization.

The consultant will leverage their extensive experience in GST, Customs, Central Excise, indirect taxation, tax compliance, and government procedures to advise the organization on regulatory matters, compliance requirements, and interactions involving tax authorities.

This is a temporary consultancy engagement and not a full-time employment position.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert guidance on GST, Customs, Central Excise, and other indirect tax matters.
- Advise on tax compliance, documentation, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Review tax-related processes, records, notices, replies, and correspondence, where required.
- Assist in understanding and responding appropriately to communications/notices from tax and customs authorities.
- Provide guidance on departmental procedures, assessments, audits, investigations, and adjudication matters, as applicable.
- Advise management on potential tax and regulatory issues and their implications.
- Review business transactions from an indirect-tax and regulatory perspective.




- Help identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective measures.
- Keep the organization informed about relevant changes in taxation laws, rules, procedures, and government notifications.
- Provide strategic inputs to management on tax-related matters based on professional experience.
- Mentor internal finance, accounts, tax, or compliance personnel, where required.

Desired Candidate Profile
- Retired officer of CBIC with substantial experience in Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax, or related areas.
- Experience at a senior supervisory/managerial level would be preferred.
- Strong practical understanding of indirect tax laws, departmental procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Good analytical, communication, and advisory skills.
- Ability to provide independent, objective, and practical guidance.
- High qualified integrity and discretion in handling confidential business and tax matters.

Ideal Candidate A retired CBIC officer with substantial practical experience who can provide high-level, independent, and confidential guidance on indirect taxation and regulatory matters while working with the organization on a flexible, short-term basis.
