: Shift Supervisor Turn-Mill Operations
Experience: 4 to 8 Years
Location: [Bangaluru Dabaspete]
Reports To: Production Manager / Operations Head
Job Summary
Shift Supervisor to oversee our Turn-Mill machining department. To lead a team of operators and setters to meet production targets while maintaining strict quality standards. The ideal candidate has deep technical roots in CNC Turn-Mill operations (multi-axis) and a proven track record of managing shop floor workflows in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Management
- Execute the daily production plan to ensure on-time delivery of components.
- Monitor machine uptime and minimize idle time through effective scheduling of setups and tool changes.
- Manage shift handovers to ensure seamless continuity of work between crews.
2. Technical Oversight
- Provide expert guidance on Turn-Mill centers (e.g., Doosan,).
- Troubleshoot complex machining issues, including tool vibrations, chip control, and surface finish problems.
- Assist in the setting up of 4-axis and 5-axis Turn-Mill operations involving live tooling, C-axis, and Y-axis movements.
3. Quality & Process Control
- Ensure all parts meet dimensional tolerances using precision instruments (Micrometers, CMM reports, Verniers).
- Implement and maintain First Piece Inspection protocols.
- Drive "Zero Defect" initiatives and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any non-conformities.
4. Team Leadership & Safety
- Supervise a team of 1020 operators and setters, providing training and performance feedback.
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (PPE, machine guarding) and 5S workplace organization standards.
- Manage labor allocation based on skill levels and production urgency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 5 to 8 years in CNC machinery, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role specifically for Turn-Mill machines.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong understanding of Fanuc, and Siemens, controllers.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings (GD&T;).
- Knowledge of cutting tool selection and optimized machining parameters (speeds/feeds) for various materials (17-4PH, Inconel 718, SS etc.).
- Education: Diploma OR equivalent vocational training.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): M
- Schedule Adherence:
- Safety Incidents: Zero recordable accidents during the shift.
1. Multi-Axis Synchronization & Logic
- Sub-Spindle Management:
- Balanced Cutting:
- C & Y Axis Programming: Expert-level understanding of polar coordinate interpolation (G12.1/G112) and cylindrical interpolation (G07.1) for milling features on a turned diameter.
2. Tooling & Work holding Sophistication
- Live Tooling Optimization: Deep knowledge of driven tool holders (radial and axial)
and the maintenance of internal coolant systems for high-pressure through-spindle applications.
- Quick-Change Systems: Experience with modular tooling systems (e.g., Capto, or HSK) to minimize set-up duration.
- Custom Work holding: Proficiency in setting up hydraulic chucks, collet systems.
3. Programming & Simulation
- G-Code Optimization: Ability to manually edit and optimize CAM-generated code at the controller to improve tool life and cycle efficiency.
- Macro Programming: Familiarity with Fanuc Custom Macro B or equivalent for creating probing cycles and automated tool-wear offsets.
4. Metrology & Material Science
- In-Process Probing: Experience utilizing Renishaw (or similar) probes for automated part alignment and tool breakage detection.
- Metallurgy Knowledge: Understanding the machinability of "Exotic" alloys (Inconel, 17-4PH, stainless Steel) and adjusting cutting strategies to prevent work hardening.
"Key Responsibilities" (Technical Focus)
- Setup Reduction: setups to be standardized, documented setup sheets to ensure the first part is "Right First Time."
- Cycle Time Reduction: Analyze existing Turn-Mill programs to identify bottlenecks, utilizing simultaneous milling/turning capabilities to shave seconds off high-volume production.
- Tool Life Tracking: Implement a systematic tool-life management program to predict inserts/drill failures before they impact part quality.
Preferred Software Proficiencies
- CAM: Solid Cam (Mill-Turn module).
- ERP: Experience logging production data and downtime codes, production tracking. Contact
