About NITS Engineering

NITS Engineering is a biomedical technology company building the next generation of biomedical devices, in vitro disease models, and engineering systems for drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and diagnostics. We combine precision hardware engineering with biomedical research to build the tools that take science from the lab bench to real world application.

Role Overview

We are seeking a senior scientific leader in New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), 3D bioprinting, and bioengineered tissue models to guide the strategic advancement of our non-animal testing platforms.

In this role, you will define the scientific roadmap for our high-throughput bioprinted tissue constructs, drive platform validation, and engage with external partners across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and regulatory sectors. You will lead efforts to benchmark our 3D models against native human target tissue, proving their structural, functional, and physiological fidelity to accelerate adoption in discovery research and disease modelling. This work will be carried out in collaboration with CenFab at Vellore Institute of Technology-Vellore.

What You Will Do

Strategic Direction & Market Growth

- Formulate long-term scientific roadmaps for high-throughput 3D bioprinted tissue constructs, organoids, and disease-specific in vitro models.
- Align platform capabilities with evolving guidelines across global and regional regulatory bodies (including FDA, EPA, CDSCO, and OECD).
- Identify commercial partnerships, pilot evaluation projects, and joint research ventures to support annual growth targets (targeting 15% YoY).
- Direct strategic capability investments to expand the company’s portfolio of high-throughput bio-fabricated models.

Target Tissue Benchmarking & Platform Validation
- Lead comparative validation studies demonstrating that bioprinted 3D models accurately replicate the structural, cellular, and biological characteristics of native target tissue.
- Perform cross-platform benchmarking comparing in vitro functional metrics (e.g., cell alignment, gene/protein expression, electrophysiology, biomarker secretion) against reference in vivo human clinical and animal data.
- Establish performance characteristics, biological relevance metrics, reproducibility benchmarks, and batch-to-batch quality criteria for commercial model production.
- Translate customer and industry feedback into technical specifications, model requirements, and product updates.

Technical Leadership & External Engagement
- Lead interdisciplinary scientific teams spanning bio-fabrication, tissue engineering, cell biology, physiology, and computational modeling.
- Engage directly with pharmaceutical and biotech clients to understand their specific screening, disease modeling, and drug efficacy testing requirements.
- Represent NITS Engineering in technical working groups, industry consortia, and scientific advisory panels.
- Prepare technical proposals, study designs, white papers, and commercial presentations for prospective partners.
- Mentor research staff and establish best practices for experimental rigor, SOP generation, and quality control.

What We Are Looking For

- PhD or equivalent in toxicology,

biomedical engineering, physiology, pharmacology, or a related discipline with 3-5 years of experience working in the NAMs space.
- Recognized expertise in one or more NAM domains, including:
- Microphysiological systems (MPS)
- 3D or advanced in vitro models
- Multi-omics and mechanistic toxicology
- Demonstrated contributions to FDA, EPA, NIH/NICEATM, or similar U.S. EU, ANZ, or Indian regulatory or scientific bodies.
- Proven leadership of interdisciplinary scientific teams.
- Solid record of scientific publication, external presentation, and technical influence in NAMs, MPS, or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to connect scientific strategy to program execution, external partnerships, and organizational growth.
- .

Nice to Have

- Direct experience qualifying or delivering 3D bioprinted models for pharmaceutical target discovery or efficacy applications.
- Proven history of managing multi-laboratory reproducibility trials, technology transfer plans, or standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
- Established network within the broader NAMs, tissue engineering, and preclinical research communities.

Why Join

- Direct leadership of cutting-edge 3D bio-fabrication and non-animal model initiatives with global reach.
- Access to targeted internal funding to pursue and evaluate novel concepts in tissue engineering and model validation.
- Work alongside world-class biomedical engineers, cell biologists, and commercial leads in an open, multidisciplinary environment.
- Play a direct role in establishing human-relevant models that modernize global preclinical testing and reduce reliance on animal studies.
- Lead high-visibility projects, mentor emerging scientific talent, and establish yourself as a recognized leader in the global NAMs community.
