- Production Manager

Job Summary The Production Manager will oversee and manage shop floor operations, focusing on manpower handling, material management, production, planning, maintenance and process improvement. The role requires strong technical and leadership skills to ensure smooth production processes, Adherence to quality standards, and alignment with organizational goals. Reporting to the Directors or any other person they assign, the Production Manager will play a vital role in optimizing productivity, upkeeping of plant and machineries, managing critical situations, and driving new product development, continuous improvement initiatives in the steel tube/ pipe manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manpower Management:

Lead and manage shop floor teams, ensuring optimal utilization of manpower and machine utilisation.

Conduct daily meetings with supervisors and operating team and to review production activities and address concerns.

Foster a positive work environment by providing guidance, motivation, and training to shop floor employees.

Encourage team working along with cross function members like HR, Planning, Purchase, Quality and Maintenance.

2. Material and Inventory Coordination:

Ensure timely arrangement/availability of raw materials for tube mills and finished goods on the shop floor.

Coordinate with the purchase team to streamline store management and material procurement.

3. Production Planning and Monitoring:

Monitor daily production versus planned output, identify variances, analyze failures and arrive action plans to minimise the gaps on Production and Yield and achieve the targets set by management.

Prepare and submit monthly production reports highlighting key metrics and improvements.

Ensure timely delivery of orders by coordinating with the sales team regarding the order bank and dispatch schedules.

4. Process Improvement and Optimization:





Actively participate in cycle time reduction, line balancing, and improvement initiatives.

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.

Implement energy-saving measures by monitoring and optimizing power consumption.

5. Cost Control:

Monitor and control consumables, repair, and maintenance costs.

Ensure efficient utilization of resources to reduce operational expenses (OPEX).

6. Reporting and Analysis:

Generate and analyze MIS reports for production performance and shop floor operations.

Provide daily, weekly, monthly, and annual performance reports to the General manager operations and President.

7. Quality and Compliance:

Ensure adherence to quality standards and compliance with company policies.

Review daily log sheets and ensure proper documentation of production activities.

8. Critical Situations Management:

Address and resolve operational challenges on the shop floor promptly and effectively.

Develop contingency plans to handle unforeseen disruptions.

9. Support to Plant Manager:

Assist the General manager / President in implementing rolling/finishing processes and equipment maintenance strategies.

Provide qualified advice and support on process optimization to enhance plant capabilities.

Qualifications:

Education

Diploma or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Additional qualifications in management studies or manpower handling skills are preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in production management, preferably in the steel tube/pipe manufacturing industry.

Skills Required:

Strong leadership and manpower management skills

Ability to handle high-pressure situations and resolve critical challenges effectively

In-depth knowledge of steel pipe manufacturing process and operational best practices

Proficiency in process improvement techniques

Analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills
