Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and strategic Operations Manager with 5 to 8 years of core experience in FMCG, agricultural commodity procurement, and international trade operations. Based in Mumbai, you will lead end-to-end procurement management, supply chain coordination, and import-export operations for key agricultural commodities like rice, sugar, and other FMCG goods. The ideal candidate will combine strong vendor negotiations, strategic sourcing, customs/shipping compliance, and operational leadership to streamline supply chains and lower landing costs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Management

- Lead end-to-end procurement operations for FMCG goods and agricultural commodities (specifically rice, sugar, and associated grain/food categories).
- Identify, evaluate, and establish strong relationships with millers, farmers, global suppliers, and trade distributors to secure competitive pricing and quality.
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures, payment mechanisms, and supply contracts to maximize profit margins.
- Manage purchase orders, demand forecasting, supplier performance metrics, and quality assurance protocols at origin points.

1. Import & Export Operations Management

- Oversee international supply chain logistics, freight booking, customs clearance, and port operations across major Indian ports (e.g., JNPT/Nhava Sheva).
- Ensure full compliance with import-export regulations, FSSAI standards, DGFT policies, APEDA rules, and international trade laws.
- Manage, prepare, and verify critical shipping and trade documentation, including Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, Phytosanitary Certificates, Letters of Credit (LCs), and bank guarantees.




- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, custom house agents (CHAs), and third-party inspection agencies (e.g., SGS) to prevent demurrage or clearance delays.

1. Supply Chain & Warehouse Logistics

- Oversee warehouse inventory levels, safety stocks, and storage conditions for perishable/bulk commodities to minimize shrinkage and spoilage.
- Optimize domestic transportation networks from millers/suppliers to ports and distribution centers across India.
- Implement inventory control procedures and monitor stock turns, reorder points, and order fulfillment accuracy.

1. Team Leadership & Financial Oversight

- Direct and mentor a cross-functional operational team handling purchasing, logistics, and documentation.
- Track operational budgets, landing costs, freight rates, and procurement expenditure to drive continuous cost optimization.
- Generate weekly and monthly reporting dashboards covering procurement cycles, shipment statuses, cost variance, and supply performance for executive management.

Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 5 to 8 years of proven experience in operations and procurement within the FMCG or agri-commodity import/export sectors (handling products such as rice, sugar, grains, or packaged foods).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or related fields. An MBA or Post Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain/International Business is preferred.

- Core Skills:
- Hands-on expertise in commodity procurement, vendor negotiation, and contract management.
- In-depth knowledge of import-export documentation, customs clearance workflows, and shipping logistics.
- Familiarity with foreign trade policy, APEDA regulations, and quality standards for rice and sugar.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and negotiation capabilities.
- Location & Mobility: Based in Mumbai with readiness to visit ports, warehouses, and supplier sites as needed.
- Software: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Tally) and MS Excel for inventory and procurement tracking.
