Love inventing games? Want real children to play-test them every week? Read on.
who we are
Openhouse is a one-stop destination for parents to help their children grow beyond school, through sports, academics, extracurriculars, camps and workshops. Backed by Accel, Z47 and GSV Ventures, we believe children learn best through play.
about the role
You will define what an exceptional, play-first Openhouse class looks like across art, music, movement, robotics & STEM, public speaking and the categories we haven’t launched yet. We picture children so absorbed in a game that they don’t notice they’re building a skill.
You will own both formats we run, for children from early years to early teens, at every skill level:
- Group classes in Openhouse centres & apartment clubhouses, where a game has to work for every child in a mixed-ability batch.
- 1:1 classes at home , where you design around one child’s pace, interests and next level.
This is a hands-on building role: you test ideas with children and change them based on what actually works.
your responsibilities
Invent Games, and Lots of them
- Create new games and challenges for every category, and build a game bank facilitators can pick up and run.
- Prototype quick, play-test with children, and keep only the games that work.
Design Curriculum & Progression
- Define skill levels and progression pathways for each category, from first-timer to advanced, keeping every level play-based.
- Make progress visible to children, facilitators and parents.
Own both group & 1:1 classes
- Design group sessions where every child stays engaged, and 1:1 modules that adapt to each child.
- Make group and 1:1 classes feel like one Openhouse journey for a child who does both.
Enable Facilitators & Lead Experts
- Create guides, game cards and rubrics, and train,
observe and coach facilitators.
- Hire and lead a team of category experts, and set the quality bar for their work.
Measure & Improve
- Use observations, skill checks and parent feedback to keep improving games, sessions and tools.
what we are looking for
- 3–6 years designing learning or play for children, in edtech, schools, extracurricular or activity
companies, game design, sports coaching or similar.
- A strong grasp of child development and play-based learning, with depth in at least one extracurricular area.
- A portfolio of games, curricula or sessions you have built and tested with children.
- Experience coaching facilitators, and comfort using AI tools to prototype quickly.
- Most importantly, you would rather be on the floor playing the game with children than perfect a document about it.
- Good to have: game design or gamification experience, designing for both group and 1:1 formats, or working with hands-on kits and props.
not for you
- You see play as a break from learning, or curriculum as fixed lesson plans.
- You need a fully defined brief before you start experimenting.
the practical bits
- Location: Bangalore (full-time, in-office; remote work is not available)
- Experience: 3–6 years
- Function: Learning & Experience Design (LxD)
- Work setting: significant time in Openhouse centres, apartment classes and homes
- Compensation: pay is not a constraint; it depends on experience, capabilities and performance across the interview process
