Java Backend Lead

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Lead to own the architecture, design, development, delivery, and quality of backend services in a Payments/UPI/Core Banking environment. The candidate will be responsible for defining service boundaries, driving technical decisions, ensuring high-quality code, and coordinating integrations across multiple squads.

Key Responsibilities

Own the service architecture, design, development, delivery, code quality, and integration testing for backend services.

Define clear microservice boundaries, responsibilities, dependencies, and integration patterns.

Review and approve technical designs, solution approaches, and architecture decisions.

Design and develop scalable, secure, and highly available backend services using Java and Spring Boot.

Drive development using Spring Boot 3, Spring Security, and Spring Data.

Coordinate API contracts and Kafka event/message contracts across different squads and ensure seamless integration.

Work closely with multiple development teams to resolve technical dependencies and unblock teams whenever required.

Conduct code reviews and establish best practices for code quality, maintainability, performance, and security.

Ensure comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end testing of services.

Design and optimize data access using Oracle and caching solutions such as Redis.





Work with Kafka for event-driven architecture, messaging, and asynchronous communication.

Collaborate with DevOps/platform teams for deployment and operations on Kubernetes environments.

Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and production issues.

Ensure backend services meet the required security, availability, scalability, and performance standards.

Mentor developers and provide technical guidance on architecture, coding practices, and troubleshooting.

Collaborate with product, business, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to ensure timely delivery.

Required Technical Skills

Robust experience in Java

Spring Boot 3

Spring Security

Spring Data / JPA

Strong understanding of Microservices Architecture

Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka

Strong knowledge of Oracle Database

Experience with Redis

Experience with Kubernetes

REST APIs and API integration

Experience with integration testing and automated testing

Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture

Domain Experience
