The role involves ensuring the reliable and productive operation of spinning machinery through preventive maintenance, breakdown troubleshooting, machine inspection, repairs and continuous improvement.
The position is a shop-floor engineering role that requires a combination of technical knowledge, hands-on understanding of mechanical equipment and coordination with maintenance and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Carry out and supervise preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of spinning machinery and associated mechanical equipment.
- Inspect equipment to identify mechanical faults, abnormal conditions, worn-out components and potential breakdown risks.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and ensure timely restoration of machines to minimize production downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance technicians/fitter teams during dismantling, repair, replacement and reassembly of machine components.
- Ensure proper machine alignment, fitment, adjustment, lubrication and trial runs after maintenance.
2. Spinning Machinery Maintenance
- Handle maintenance activities for various textile/spinning machines, including:
- Ring Frames
- Gill Boxes
- Auto Coners
- Doubling Machines
- TFO (Two-for-One Twister)
- Other associated spinning machinery and equipment.
- Develop a practical understanding of machine mechanisms, critical components and operating parameters.
- Monitor machine condition and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance.
3. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
- Execute maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of planned maintenance activities.
- Monitor recurring breakdowns and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify and eliminate underlying causes.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving machine availability, reliability and reduction in downtime.
- Maintain appropriate records of breakdowns, maintenance activities, component replacements and machine performance.
- Monitor maintenance-related parameters such as breakdown frequency, downtime, MTBF and MTTR, wherever applicable.
4. Maintenance Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate with the Production team for planned maintenance, breakdown resolution and machine availability.
- Plan maintenance activities, manpower requirements and availability of critical spares in coordination with the maintenance team.
- Coordinate with stores/purchase and external service providers for required spares, repairs and maintenance support.
- Support installation, modification and improvement projects related to mechanical equipment.
5. Team & Shop-Floor Coordination
- Guide and coordinate with technicians, fitters and other maintenance personnel during maintenance and breakdown activities.
- Ensure maintenance work is carried out safely,
correctly and within the required timeline.
- Maintain effective communication with production and other departments to resolve equipment-related issues.
6. Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Identify opportunities for improving machine performance, reducing breakdowns and increasing maintenance efficiency.
- Participate in 5S, TPM, Kaizen and other continuous improvement initiatives, as applicable.
- Ensure adherence to safe maintenance practices, use of appropriate tools and compliance with plant safety procedures.
Hands-on Technical Exposure The role requires willingness to work closely with machinery and maintenance teams on the shop floor. The candidate should be comfortable with practical aspects of mechanical maintenance, including:
- Machine inspection and fault identification
- Dismantling and reassembly of mechanical components
- Mechanical fitting and adjustments
- Bearing, shaft, coupling and other component replacement
- Alignment and machine setting
- Lubrication and servicing
- Basic mechanical repair and restoration
- Machine testing and trial runs after maintenance
Educational Qualification
- B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may also be considered depending on relevant experience and technical exposure.
Experience
- 0-3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance/manufacturing is preferred.
- Fresh B.Tech Mechanical candidates with strong technical fundamentals and willingness to work on the shop floor may also be considered.
- Experience in textile/spinning machinery maintenance will be an added advantage.
