We have the following opening for our client, a reputed iron ore mining steel manufacturing company with its corporate office in Hospet, requires for its pellet plant in Sandur, Karnataka location.

General Manager - Operations Pellet 2.0

Base Location: Sandur

Experience

- 15 - 20+ years of relevant experience in iron ore pelletization / steel / mineral processing / heavy process industries.

- Significant experience in managing large-scale pellet plant operations.
- Experience in plant commissioning, stabilization, ramp-up and operational optimization will be preferred.
- Should have strong experience in managing production, process, maintenance coordination, safety, quality and manpower.

Age: 35 -50 Years

Qualification

- B.E./ B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Mineral Processing / related engineering discipline.

- Postgraduate qualification in Operations / Management will be an added advantage.

Job Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of pellet plant operations and processes.
- Good understanding of raw material preparation, grinding, filtration, balling, induration and pellet handling.
- Knowledge of process control and plant optimization.
- Strong understanding of equipment reliability and maintenance coordination.
- Knowledge of quality control and pellet chemistry/specifications.
- Strong understanding of EHS and statutory compliance.
- Good knowledge of operational cost management and productivity improvement.

Roles & Responsibility:
- Overall Plant Operations:

- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Pellet 2.0 plant.
- Ensure achievement of planned production, productivity and operational targets.
- Develop and implement operating plans aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor plant performance through key operational parameters and KPIs.
- Ensure optimum utilization of plant capacity, equipment and resources.
- Coordinate with maintenance, quality, process, projects, commercial, HR and other functions for smooth plant operations.
- Ensure operational readiness and stabilization of the plant during ramp-up and commissioning stages, wherever applicable.

2. Production & Process Optimization
- Ensure production of pellets as per approved production plans and customer requirements.




- Monitor process parameters and identify opportunities for improvement in productivity and recovery.
- Optimize consumption of raw materials, fuel, power and other process inputs.
- Drive initiatives for reduction in specific energy and material consumption.
- Identify and eliminate process bottlenecks and operational losses.
- Implement best operating practices and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure effective utilization of production equipment and minimize downtime.

3. Quality Management
- Ensure consistent production of pellets meeting defined quality specifications.
- Coordinate with Quality/Process teams for maintaining product quality.
- Monitor quality parameters and take corrective actions for deviations.
- Drive process improvements to reduce quality variations, rejection and reprocessing.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards.

4. Safety, Setting & Compliance
- Establish and maintain a strong safety culture across the plant.
- Ensure strict compliance with EHS policies, statutory requirements and applicable environmental regulations.
- Drive implementation of safety procedures, work permits, risk assessments and safe operating practices.
- Ensure timely investigation and closure of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Promote zero-accident and zero-harm objectives.
- Ensure compliance with pollution control, environmental and other statutory requirements applicable to the plant.

5. Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Coordinate closely with Maintenance to ensure high equipment availability and reliability.
- Review preventive and predictive maintenance plans and ensure timely execution.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and drive root-cause analysis.
- Reduce breakdowns, downtime and maintenance-related production losses.
- Ensure availability of critical spares and resources required for uninterrupted operations.

6. Cost & Productivity Management
- Drive initiatives for operational cost reduction and productivity improvement.




- Monitor operating expenses and ensure effective cost control.
- Optimize consumption of power, fuel, raw materials, consumables and manpower.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and value-engineering initiatives.
- Monitor key cost and productivity indicators against approved budgets.

7. Manpower & Team Management
- Plan manpower requirements in line with production and operational needs.
- Ensure optimum deployment of employees across shifts and operational areas.
- Build a competent and performance-oriented operations team.
- Develop and mentor plant leadership and operational teams.
- Identify training and capability-building requirements.
- Promote discipline, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.

8. Continuous Improvement
- Drive Lean, Six Sigma, TPM and other operational excellence initiatives, as applicable.
- Identify opportunities for improving throughput, yield, productivity and equipment efficiency.
- Encourage data-driven decision-making and problem-solving.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA and other improvement initiatives.
- Benchmark plant performance against industry best practices.

9. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with Business Head, Corporate functions and other plant departments for achievement of business objectives.
- Work closely with Raw Material, Logistics, Commercial and Sales teams to ensure uninterrupted operations and dispatches.
- Liaise with statutory authorities, consultants, vendors and other external stakeholders whenever required.
- Maintain effective coordination with project and engineering teams for operational requirements and plant modifications.

10. MIS & Management Reporting
- Review daily, weekly and monthly operational performance.
- Prepare and present management reports covering production, quality, safety, productivity, cost and equipment performance.
- Track operational KPIs and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on plant performance, key issues, risks and improvement initiatives.
