About the Role

We are looking for an experienced GCP Data Governance Engineer specializing in Google Cloud Dataplex and Knowledge Catalog to design, implement, and operationalize an enterprise-scale governed data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The ideal candidate will have robust hands-on expertise in Dataplex architecture, metadata management, data quality, access controls, data lineage, and enterprise data governance. This role requires the ability to translate governance frameworks into scalable, automated, and secure GCP implementations.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement enterprise Dataplex architecture using Domains, Lakes, Zones, and Assets.
- Implement metadata management using Knowledge Catalog, Aspects, Aspect Types, business glossaries, classifications, ownership, and technical metadata.
- Establish data quality processes using Dataplex DataScans, quality rules, thresholds, monitoring, and reporting.
- Implement data access governance using IAM, RBAC, policy tags, row-level security, column-level security, and least-privilege access.
- Design and operationalize data lifecycle management, including retention, archival, and deletion policies.
- Implement data lineage, data discovery, impact analysis, and end-to-end data traceability.
- Define data contracts, schema standards, data quality SLAs, ownership, and producer/consumer responsibilities.
- Establish domain-based and federated data governance models involving Data Owners, Stewards, Producers, Consumers,



and Data Enablers.
- Define governance standards for BigQuery datasets and Cloud Storage assets across RAW, STANDARD, and GOLD data layers.
- Automate metadata management, quality checks, security controls, and governance processes using Python, SQL, and GCP services.
- Collaborate with data engineering, security, compliance, and enterprise architecture teams to implement scalable governance solutions.

Required Skills & Expertise

- Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Dataplex and Knowledge Catalog.
- Expertise in BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, and GCP IAM.
- Experience with metadata management, business glossaries, data classification, and sensitivity management.
- Strong understanding of policy tags, AD group integration, RBAC, row-level security, and column-level security.
- Hands-on experience with Dataplex DataScans and data quality monitoring.
- Knowledge of data lineage, data lifecycle management, data contracts, and enterprise governance frameworks.
- Experience with Dataflow, Dataproc, Apache Beam, Apache Spark/PySpark, Pub/Sub, Python, and SQL.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, security, compliance, and scalable cloud data platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience implementing enterprise-wide or domain-based data governance frameworks.
- Experience with RAW, STANDARD, and GOLD data architecture patterns.
- Experience automating governance policies, metadata workflows, and data quality controls.
- Ability to independently define governance architecture and drive implementation.
