1. Financial due diligence of schools
- Review audited financials, ITRs, bank statements and fee registers of target schools and trusts for the last 3 years.
- Validate student strength against fee collection; flag gaps, concessions and dues.
- Identify liabilities: loans, creditor dues, statutory dues (PF, ESI, TDS, GST), staff salary arrears and pending litigation with a money impact.
- Prepare the DD report and a clear summary of red flags, adjustments and deal-value impact for management.
2. Accounts reconciliation
- Monthly bank, fee-collection and payment-gateway reconciliation for each school.
- Reconcile vendor and landlord ledgers,
advances and security deposits.
- Close open items within the month and keep a clean audit trail.
3. Collections, payments and liabilities tracking
- Track fee collections against fee demand by school, grade and instalment; drive follow-up on overdues with school teams.
- Maintain a payables calendar for rent/lease, MSA payments, salaries, vendors and statutory dues; ensure nothing is paid late or twice.
- Keep a live liability register per school, including takeover-related commitments and creditor payouts.
4. School financial operations
- Set up and run finance processes at new and taken-over schools: chart of accounts, approval limits, petty cash, fee receipting.
- Work with school principals and admin heads on day-to-day finance questions.
- Support statutory, internal and trust audits; coordinate with auditors and the central finance team.
5. Budget tracking
- Prepare annual budgets for each school with the school and Growth teams.
- Publish a monthly budget-vs-actual report with short notes on major variances.
- Track capex for new campuses (fit-outs, furniture, IT, branding) against approved budgets.
6. Expense oversight
- Review and approve expenses against policy and budget before payment.
- Spot leakages, duplicate bills and out-of-policy spends; recommend cost controls.
- Run periodic expense reviews with school heads and present findings to management.
7. Team leadership
- Supervise the FinOps Executives: allocate work, review reconciliations and payment files, and sign off.
- Train the Executives and school admin teams on finance processes and controls.
How success is measured Due diligence: DD report shared within agreed timeline (typically 7–10 working days of data receipt); no material liability found post-deal that DD missed
Reconciliation: All bank and fee reconciliations closed by the 10th of the following month
Collections :Fee collection % vs demand per school; overdue ageing trending down
Payments :Zero late statutory payments; zero duplicate payments
Budget :Monthly budget-vs-actual report out by the 15th; variances above 10% explained
Expenses :Spend within approved budget; leakages identified and recovered
Audit :Clean audits with no repeat observations
