Role purpose
- Manastu Space is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to own electrical maintenance and safety across all sites. Our Pawane head office is an HT installation with around 193 HP of connected load, with another 250 HP planned. At present, there is no accountable electrical engineer for the installation, so its condition, capacity and the competence of people working on it are not clearly owned.
- The role will document the installation as built, put preventive maintenance in place based on equipment criticality, maintain dated records, plan load before it is connected, and ensure equipment is energised only after proper isolation and approval by a competent person.
Key responsibilities End-to-end ownership of the electrical function
- Take end to end ownership for all electrical related maintenance and electrical safety.
- Be the single point of accountability for the condition, capacity and safety of the electrical installation at all facilities.
- Own power availability for production and test campaigns; respond to failures, decide the restoration approach and record every unplanned outage.
- Set electrical standards for cable sizing, panels, switchgear, earthing and protection, and apply them to recent installations and modifications..
- Prepare and manage the electrical maintenance budget, AMC renewals and capital proposals based on equipment condition and criticality.
- Supervise contractors, vendors, technicians and the in-house electrician.
Preventive and condition-based maintenance — the primary responsibility
- Rank electrical assets by criticality across all sites and build the preventive maintenance schedule accordingly.
- Ensure preventive maintenance is completed on schedule, with dated and signed records, and report schedule adherence.
- Own the HT and LT maintenance regime at defined intervals, with records for each activity.
- Verify standby power availability through DG changeover and load testing, run-hour logs, UPS runtime testing and stabilizer performance checks.
- Establish condition monitoring at defined intervals covering insulation resistance, earth resistance, thermography, cables and joints. Record baseline readings and track trends.
- Define critical electrical spares and reconcile them with Stores.
Documentation, records and reporting
- Produce and maintain the single-line diagram of each facility as built — every panel, feeder and major load.
- Maintain the electrical asset register covering transformers, HT panels, DG sets, UPS systems, the 600 kVA stabilizer and motors above the agreed rating, including rating, age and last service.
- Keep drawings, schedules and maintenance records in one system so the installation can be understood from the records.
- Issue a monthly electrical report covering maintenance adherence, condition trends, breakdown MTTR, unplanned outage hours and trends, power factor, maximum demand and open risks.
Load management, capacity and power quality
- Perform load calculations for every addition or expansion and maintain the spare electrical capacity at each facility, based on sanctioned load and actual plant demand.
- Manage phase load distribution and balancing across feeders and panels, correcting imbalance and neutral current issues.
- Monitor and improve power factor, harmonics and maximum demand, and establish sub-metering at agreed points to track consumption and load growth.
Safety, isolation and statutory compliance
- Maintain the authorized-person list defining who may isolate and energize, in consultation with the Safety Officer.
- Implement and enforce lock-out/tag-out and isolation permits. Do not energize equipment based only on verbal confirmation.
- Maintain compliance with applicable CEA Regulations, Electricity Act and Factories Act requirements, with statutory test records kept current. Take up the designated Electrical Safety Officer role when the connected load crosses the applicable statutory threshold, subject to required qualification and authorization.
- Act as the point of contact with the distribution utility and Electrical Inspectorate for inspections and related matters.
Essential qualifications and experience
- B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in operation and maintenance of electrical installations, or Diploma in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience. Experience in a manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, power or heavy engineering plant with its own substation is preferred.
- Current Electrical Supervisor Certificate of Competency, HT category, issued or recognised by the Chief Electrical Inspector, Maharashtra.
- Hands-on experience with both HT and LT systems, including transformers, RMUs, breakers, protection relays, LT distribution, panels, feeders, motors and starters.
- Practical experience in electrical isolation, including lock-out/tag-out, isolation permits and maintaining an authorized-person list, with the ability to enforce these controls under pressure.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent for preparing single-line diagrams and electrical drawings.
- Working knowledge of the applicable statutory requirements under the CEA Regulations, Electricity Act and Factories Act, including dealing with the Electrical Inspectorate and distribution utility.
Compensation and benefits
- Salary — Competitive with the Indian space and deep-tech sector, and aligned with the candidate’s experience and interview performance.
- Employee medical insurance.
- Group personal accident cover.
- Provident Fund and gratuity.
- Annual leave + Planned and Sick Leave.
- Maternity and paternity leave.
- Two work-from-home days per month.
