Role summary

We are looking for a Civil Engineer to prepare Bills of Quantities, rate analyses and cost estimates for urban transport projects. You will turn design drawings into accurate, tender-ready estimates for streets, roads, junctions, bus terminals and related infrastructure in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare quantity take-offs from AutoCAD design drawings, cross-sections and GFC drawings for:

- carriageway and pavement layers
- footpaths, kerbs and paving
- medians and refuge islands
- stormwater drains and utility ducts
- road markings, signage and street lighting
- traffic signals and landscaping

- Prepare detailed and abstract estimates and BoQs for DPRs and tender packages for streets, junctions, complete streets, parking facilities and bus terminals.

- Carry out rate analysis for non-schedule items using:

- the applicable Schedule of Rates: TN Highways/PWD SoR, Karnataka PWD SoR and local body SoRs such as GBA and municipal corporations

- MoRTH Standard Data Book
- market rates

- Ensure item descriptions and specifications comply with MoRTH Specifications for Road and Bridge Works and relevant IRC codes.

- Prepare measurement sheets, lead and lift statements, and cost abstracts with GST, contingencies and escalation as required.

- Support tender documentation: BoQ schedules, technical specifications, and responses to bidder queries on quantities and rates.

- Check contractor bills and measurements during execution, and support variation and deviation statements.

- Contribute to phasing options,



cost comparisons and value engineering in coordination with the design team.

- Maintain an updated internal database of SoR rates, market rates and unit costs for typical street and junction elements.

Qualifications

- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering; M.Tech in Transportation, Highway or Construction Management is an advantage.

- 3–6 years of experience in quantity surveying, estimation and BoQ preparation, preferably for urban roads, streets or transport infrastructure.

Skills and knowledge

- Sound knowledge of urban transport projects: streets, roads, junctions, footpaths, drainage, utilities and bus terminals.

- Valuable working understanding of the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Schedules of Rates, including how to apply them, revise them and analyse non-SoR items.

- Familiarity with MoRTH specifications, IRC codes and government DPR and tender formats.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD for quantity take-off, and strong Excel skills for estimates and rate analysis.

- Desirable: experience with estimation software, and with Smart City or municipal projects.

- Working knowledge of Tamil and/or Kannada is an advantage.

- Attention to detail, and the ability to work to tender and submission deadlines.
