HOUSEKEEPING ASSOCIATE – HOSPITAL

Position: Housekeeping Associate
Department: Housekeeping / Facility Management

Reports To: Housekeeping Supervisor / Admin

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and overall appearance of patient care areas, rooms and common areas of the hospital while following hospital hygiene, infection-control and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning & Housekeeping

- Clean and maintain patient rooms, wards, OPD areas, corridors, waiting areas, offices and other assigned areas.
- Clean and disinfect floors, surfaces, furniture, doors, windows and other hospital facilities.
- Clean washrooms and ensure proper hygiene and availability of necessary supplies.
- Empty and dispose of waste in designated areas as per hospital waste-management procedures.
- Ensure assigned areas are clean, hygienic and presentable at all times.
- Attend to spills and cleaning requirements immediately.

2. Patient Area Support

- Maintain cleanliness around patient beds and rooms without disturbing patients.
- Coordinate with nursing staff for cleaning requirements in patient-care areas.
- Ensure rooms are properly cleaned after patient discharge and made ready for the next patient.
- Maintain cleanliness in high-traffic and frequently used areas.

3. Infection Control & Safety

- Follow hospital infection-control and sanitation procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and appropriately.
- Wear the required uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow proper procedures for handling hospital waste.
- Immediately report spills, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions or other concerns to the supervisor.

4. Supplies & Equipment

- Use cleaning materials and housekeeping equipment responsibly.




- Inform the supervisor when cleaning materials or consumables are running low.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of housekeeping equipment after use.
- Avoid unnecessary wastage of cleaning materials.

5. Professional Conduct

- Maintain proper grooming, hygiene and uniform standards.
- Be polite and respectful towards patients, attendants, doctors and hospital staff.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Follow assigned duties, shift timings and housekeeping schedules.
- Perform any other housekeeping-related duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Qualification & Experience

- Minimum 8th / 10th standard qualification preferred.
- Previous housekeeping experience in a hospital, hotel or healthcare facility is preferred.
- Freshers may also be considered based on suitability.

Required Skills

- Good personal hygiene and grooming.
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Basic understanding of cleaning procedures and safety.
- Positive discipline and punctuality.
- Ability to work in shifts.
- Polite and patient-friendly behaviour.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Physically fit to perform housekeeping duties.
