ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

We are starting a new local news media organisation focused on Mumbai, covering local issues, developments, public infrastructure and stories that matter to citizens.

We are looking for a curious and detail-oriented City Reporter who enjoys finding information, asking questions and understanding how Mumbai works.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Research newsworthy local issues and developments across Mumbai.
- Track developments involving civic bodies, government departments and public authorities.
- Research government documents, reports, budgets, tenders, circulars, notifications and official data.
- Identify the relevant department, authority or official responsible for a particular issue.
- Conduct background research for news stories, explainers and social media content.
- Speak with government officials, experts, residents and other relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct on-ground research and reporting when required.
- File and track RTI applications where required.
- Verify facts, figures, dates, costs and claims before publication.
- Maintain proper records and sources for all research.
- Identify emerging stories and potential content ideas.
- Work closely with writers, designers and video producers to develop content.
- Maintain a database of relevant projects, departments, authorities and developments.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- 1–3 years of experience in journalism, research, public policy,



political science, economics or a related field.
- Strong research and information-gathering abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and analyse government documents and official information.
- Strong written and spoken English; Hindi and/or Marathi proficiency is an advantage.
- Strong curiosity about Mumbai and how the city functions.
- Ability to distinguish verified information from claims, allegations and opinions.
- Comfortable travelling across Mumbai for reporting and research.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assignments.

PREFERRED

- Journalism or newsroom experience.
- Experience with RTI.
- Understanding of Mumbai's civic administration and government agencies.
- Knowledge of urban development, infrastructure or public policy.
- Experience in digital media.
