Job Description We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance a critical, highly visible mobile application within a large supply chain organization. The application is used by truck drivers in the field to support the transportation and delivery of hazardous materials and has significant visibility across the organization, including executive leadership. This role will focus heavily on SQL performance, troubleshooting, data optimization, and automation. The ideal candidate is someone who can assess existing systems, identify bottlenecks and root causes, recommend improvements, implement changes, and demonstrate measurable performance improvements. Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Perform initial assessments of the application's data environment to identify performance bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
Troubleshoot complex SQL and database performance issues and determine root causes.
Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and other database components supporting the application.
Recommend improvements based on findings and explain how proposed changes will improve performance, reliability, or efficiency.
Implement approved enhancements and validate performance before and after changes.
Identify opportunities to automate manual or repetitive data processes.
Support ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of the application's data environment.
Partner with application and engineering teams to resolve issues that span the database and application layers.
Use C#/.NET when needed to understand, troubleshoot, or enhance application functionality related to the data layer.
Communicate technical findings, recommendations, risks, and results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Skills and Requirements 3-4+ years of Data Engineering, Database Engineering, or similar experience.
Expert-level SQL skills with significant hands-on experience troubleshooting and optimizing complex queries.




Strong understanding of SQL performance tuning, query optimization, database troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Experience working with C# and/or .NET applications.
Experience working within a cloud environment. Microsoft Azure is preferred, but strong AWS experience with the ability to work in Azure is acceptable.
Experience identifying opportunities for data/process automation and implementing improvements.
Demonstrated ability to take a performance problem from initial assessment → root cause → recommendation → implementation → validation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate what is causing an issue, what should change, and why.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data and application services.
Experience supporting high-volume or business-critical applications.
Background working with applications supporting supply chain, logistics, transportation, or field operations.
Experience working with mobile application back-end systems or data environments.
Ability to work independently in an setting where application reliability and performance are highly visible.
