Job Description
Commercial Finance and FP&A; Manager
Experience: 8–12 years | Function: Commercial Finance
About VE3
VE3 is an IT consulting business operating across the UK and India. We deliver consulting engagements, technology implementation projects and managed services for public-sector and commercial clients, supported by our own products and solutions.
The opportunity
We are looking for a commercially astute finance professional to lead financial planning and analysis, develop consulting pricing and drive better commercial outcomes across the business. You will turn financial information into decisions on growth, hiring, client deals, supplier spend and investment.
This is a hands-on role combining financial modelling with direct commercial discussions. You will challenge assumptions, compare alternatives, negotiate within agreed authority and follow recommendations through to measurable results. You must be comfortable discussing a consulting bid with delivery leaders and negotiating an employee benefits or insurance renewal with a provider or broker.
This is a separate role from our Project Finance and Billing Manager. You will use project actuals, billing and collection information to inform forecasts and decisions; routine invoicing, credit control and project accounting sit with that role. The position is an individual contributor role with cross-functional ownership.
Requirements
Key responsibilities
Financial planning and analysis
- Lead annual budgets, rolling forecasts and management reporting across UK and India, working with finance, sales, delivery and HR.
- Model revenue, operating costs, profitability and cash flow; explain performance against plan and recommend corrective action.
- Translate pipeline, signed work, delivery capacity and hiring plans into scenarios with explicit assumptions and confidence levels.
- Assess utilisation, bench costs, consultant grade mix, subcontractor spend and UK–India delivery economics to identify margin improvements.
- Prepare concise leadership reporting that explains the commercial implications of the numbers and the decisions required.
Business cases and investment
- Evaluate proposed hires, product investment, partnerships and expansion using expected returns, payback, cash requirements and downside scenarios.
- Challenge optimistic assumptions, compare alternatives and track whether approved investments deliver the expected benefits.
Pricing and commercial negotiations
IT consulting pricing and client deals
- Develop and maintain consultant rate cards, bid pricing and models for time-and-materials, fixed-price and recurring managed-service engagements.
- Build fully costed models covering delivery effort, resource mix, subcontractors, mobilisation, overhead assumptions and appropriate contingency.
- Assess discounts, minimum margins, volume commitments, inflation, currency exposure and payment timing before recommending a deal.
- Work with sales and delivery leaders to test scope, milestones, dependencies, acceptance assumptions and change-control arrangements.
- Participate directly in client discussions on pricing, renewals, payment terms and commercial concessions, within agreed negotiation boundaries.
- Present approval-ready deal recommendations showing expected margin, cash impact, key risks and the effect of proposed concessions.
Supplier deals and corporate expenditure
- Lead commercial evaluations and negotiations for employee benefits, insurance renewals, software subscriptions, recruitment and other business services.
- Build a renewal calendar and spend baseline; identify opportunities to consolidate suppliers, remove unused services and improve terms.
- Obtain and normalise competing quotations, comparing total cost, service levels, implementation charges, renewal increases and exit conditions.
- Agree negotiation objectives and alternatives with business owners; document concessions, recommendations and approval requirements.
- Track realised savings against an agreed baseline, distinguishing cash savings from cost avoidance and changes in service scope.
Experience and skills
Essential
- Typically 8–12 years of relevant experience, with substantial responsibility for commercial finance or FP&A; in an IT consulting business.
- Strong financial modelling skills and practical ownership of budgets, forecasts, variance analysis and management recommendations.

- Direct negotiation experience with suppliers or clients, with clear examples of personally improving price, terms, margin or overall value.
