A Shift In-Charge for a paint roller manufacturing plant supervises daily production, manages machine operators, and ensures rollers (such as paint roller covers, frames, and handles) meet quality and output goals.
Job Overview
· Role: Shift In-Charge / Shift Supervisor (Production)
· Reporting To: Production Manager / Plant Head
· Supervises: Roller assembly operators, winding machine operators, dipping/coating workers, packing staff, and utility helpers
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Output Management
· Achieve daily and shift-wise production targets for paint roller covers (knit, woven, or microfiber fabric) and frames.
· Monitor core manufacturing processes, including fabric slitting, core/tube winding, glue application, thermal/heat bonding or pressing, trimming, and handle insertion.
· Plan manpower allocation and handle absent/replacement staff at the start of the shift.
· Track Work-in-Progress (WIP) and coordinate with stores and dispatch for raw material and finished goods movement.
2. Quality Control & Defect Monitoring
· Inspect first-piece samples before starting full-scale shift production.
· Monitor common roller defects: loose fabric/pile, off-center cores, uneven glue distribution, weak thermal bonding, and poor end-cap fit.
· Ensure raw materials (fabrics, plastic/paper cores, hot-melt glues, solvent-based or water-based adhesives) match specification sheets.
· Maintain rejection logs and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA / 5-Why) for quality failures.
3. Machine & Process Oversight
· Oversee winding machines, glue-dispensing units, pressing/bonding ovens, and trimming/packing conveyors.
· Coordinate immediate breakdown maintenance with the engineering/maintenance team to minimize line downtime.
· Monitor curing or drying parameters for glued and bonded roller covers.
4. Safety, Housekeeping & 5S
· Enforce strict Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance—including safety shoes, gloves, and face masks due to glues, solvents, and rotating machinery.
· Monitor fire safety readiness, ventilation systems (especially around adhesive and solvent usage), and safe chemical storage.
· Drive daily 5S (Sort, set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and workplace organization on the shop floor.
5. Shift Reporting & Documentation
· Record hourly/shift production output, downtime reasons, rejection rates, and material consumption.
· Conduct formal shift-handover briefings with the incoming shift in-charge.
· Update Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Shop Floor Control (SFC) logs as per company standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills & Package
· Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production, or Industrial Manufacturing.
· Experience: 7 to 10 years of shop-floor supervisory experience in light assembly, coating, or specialized manufacturing (paint/roller or textile-to-core bonding industries preferred).
· Package: 5.00 LPA
· Technical Skills:
o Knowledge of adhesive application, thermal bonding, and automated/semi-automated assembly lines.
o Understanding of Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S principles.
o Basic troubleshooting for mechanical and pneumatic systems.
· Soft Skills: Leadership, shift discipline, transparent verbal communication, and problem-solving under pressure.
Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
Benefits
