Mechanical Design Engineer
Experience: 5–10 Years | Qualification: B.Tech/B.E. – Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering | Location: Hyderabad
Role Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in SolidWorks design and ANSYS FEA. You will develop and validate lightweight structural assemblies for mechanical and aerospace applications, with particular emphasis on UAV frames. The role spans concept design, stress and vibration analysis, detailed drawings, prototype support, and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop parametric 3D parts, weldments, sheet-metal components, and complex assemblies in SolidWorks, from concept layouts through release-ready models.
- Design structural components and assemblies for airframes, UAV frames, and related aerospace or advanced mechanical systems, balancing strength, stiffness, mass, packaging, and manufacturability.
- Build and document ANSYS FEA models for static structural, modal, and vibration response studies; define suitable materials, contacts, constraints, loads, and mesh controls.
- Perform stress, deformation, factor-of-safety, modal, and vibrational assessments; interpret results critically, check assumptions, and recommend geometry or material changes.
- Iterate designs toward lightweight, stiff structures with controlled vibration response. Correlate analysis with hand calculations, prototype measurements, or test results where available.
- Design and detail joints, fasteners, brackets, fixtures, mounts, and interfaces. Account for load paths, preload where applicable, access, alignment, serviceability, and assembly sequence.
- Prepare production-ready drawings with dimensions, tolerances, GD&T;, material and finish specifications, weld details,
and explicit inspection requirements.
- Create and maintain BOMs, assembly drawings, and design records; apply sound revision and configuration practices.
- Support prototype builds, fit checks, structural or vibration testing, troubleshooting, and design updates; travel to test locations within the country for product trials as required.
Required Skills
- 5–10 years of relevant mechanical or aerospace design experience, including ownership of detailed parts and assemblies.
- Advanced working proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, drawings, and design intent; AutoCAD proficiency for layouts or legacy drawings.
- Hands-on ANSYS Mechanical experience in structural FEA and modal/vibration analysis, including setup, convergence awareness, result interpretation, and clear reporting.
- Sound grounding in structural mechanics, strength of materials, machine design, load paths, stiffness, fatigue fundamentals, and vibration behavior.
- Practical knowledge of fasteners, bolted joints, inserts, fixtures, brackets, fits, tolerances, and assembly methods.
- Ability to produce clear engineering drawings using GD&T; and to work with materials and common fabrication processes.
- Strong analytical problem-solving, documentation, cross-functional communication, and prototype support skills.
Preferred
- Experience in designing airframes, UAV structures, aerostats, or other aerospace structures.
- Experience in designing lightweight structures and reducing mass while maintaining stiffness and strength; familiarity with composites is an advantage.
Minimum Qualification
- B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. Role location: Hyderabad.
- Willingness to travel to test locations within the country for product trials and testing.
