Unpacked by Hectar is looking for a research and writing intern to help us explain developments across agriculture, food, commodities, business, economics, trade, supply chains, climate and policy.

We write for both industry professionals and curious general readers. Our approach is simple: clear writing, thorough research and useful analysis.

What you’ll do

- Research assigned themes daily and track stories as they develop.
- Recommend what Unpacked should cover, with a explicit angle and an explanation of why it matters.
- Write three well-researched articles per week.
- Verify facts, evaluate sources, and support articles with credible references.
- Work with our team on editorial feedback and revisions.

We’ll provide editorial direction and broad themes.



You’ll help find the stories within them and turn your research into engaging articles.

Who should apply

Journalism students and recent graduates with:

- Strong writing skills and a clear, accessible style.
- Curiosity about business, markets, food systems and the wider economy.
- Good research habits and attention to accuracy.
- The ability to meet deadlines and respond to feedback.
