A CNC Programmer in the sheet metal industry converts engineering blueprints and 3D CAD models into machine-readable code for automated equipment like fiber laser cutters, CNC turret punch presses, and press brake bending machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Generation: Create and optimize nesting and cutting programs using CAD/CAM software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AP100, or NC Express) to maximize sheet utilization. [1, 2]
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and analyze 2D/3D engineering drawings, flat patterns, bend allowances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;). [1, 2]
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, calibrate, and run CNC laser, punching, and bending machines (Amada, Prima, or similar brands). [1]
- Wastage Reduction: Minimize raw material scrap (Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, and Aluminium) through effective nesting and process tuning. [1]
- Quality Control: Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools (vernier calipers, height gauges,
micrometers) to verify dimensions against specs. [1]
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose machine alarms, adjust feed/speed/laser power parameters, and coordinate with the production and tooling teams. [1, 2]
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, or a related trade.
- Experience: Typically 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication and CNC programming.
- Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CorelDRAW, ArtCAM, or specialized CAM tools like AP100 and NC Express.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of sheet metal flat-pattern development, bend deductions, tooling selection for turret punches, and 5S/safety standards. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
