We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Colour Matcher – R&D; with 2–3 years of experience in plastic masterbatch manufacturing, colour matching, pigment formulation, and colour development, preferably specializing in PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) masterbatch and PET-based applications.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in R&D; laboratory trials, shade development, spectrophotometer operation, colour measurement, pigment selection, formulation optimization, and troubleshooting of colour-related issues. The candidate will be responsible for developing recent shades, improving existing formulations, conducting colour matching trials, and supporting new product development (NPD) to achieve consistent colour quality and cost-effective formulations.
Practical knowledge of CIELAB colour space, Lab* values, Delta E (ΔE), colour difference analysis, pigment dispersion, polymer processing, and colour quality evaluation will be highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities1. Colour Matching & Shade Development
- Perform accurate colour matching and shade development for plastic masterbatch, particularly PET and PET-based applications.
- Develop new shades as per customer requirements, approved colour standards, master samples, and reference shades.
- Conduct laboratory colour matching trials and fine-tune pigment formulations to achieve target shades.
- Analyze colour deviations and implement corrective actions to achieve first-time-right colour matching.
- Maintain shade consistency across batches and production lots.
2. R&D; and New Product Development (NPD)
- Conduct R&D; laboratory trials for new colour masterbatch formulations and customized shade development.
- Research and evaluate new pigments, dyes, colourants, additives, and alternative raw materials for PET applications.
- Develop and optimize pigment formulations based on colour performance, processing requirements, cost, and application suitability.
- Support new product development, product improvement, and formulation standardization.
- Conduct comparative studies of pigment grades,
suppliers, and alternative raw materials.
- Evaluate the effect of pigment loading, dispersion, polymer compatibility, and processing conditions on final colour.
- Assist in developing colour formulations for transparent, translucent, opaque, and specialty PET applications, as applicable.
- Identify opportunities for formulation improvement, raw material substitution, and cost reduction.
- Document R&D; experiments, trial observations, formulation changes, and final approved recipes.
3. Spectrophotometer & Colour Measurement
- Operate a spectrophotometer for accurate colour measurement, shade comparison, and colour quality analysis.
- Evaluate CIELAB values, L*, a*, b*, Delta E (ΔE), colour difference, and shade tolerance.
- Compare standard and sample readings to identify colour deviations and determine corrective adjustments.
- Maintain colour standards, master samples, digital colour records, and instrument calibration records.
- Interpret colour measurement data and correlate instrument readings with visual shade assessment.
4. Pigment Formulation & Process Optimization
- Select suitable organic and inorganic pigments, dyes, and colourants for PET masterbatch applications.
- Optimize pigment concentration, pigment loading, and formulation ratios to achieve the required shade and performance.
- Troubleshoot pigment dispersion, colour streaking, specks, shade variation, and other colour-related defects.
- Minimize pigment wastage, reduce the number of laboratory trials, and improve formulation accuracy.
- Optimize formulation costs without compromising colour quality, consistency, and application requirements.
- Evaluate the influence of processing parameters, temperature, residence time, and dispersion quality on colour development.
5. Quality Control & Production Support
- Coordinate with production, quality control (QC), and technical teams to ensure batch-to-batch colour consistency.
- Support production-scale trials, colour approvals,
and transfer of approved formulations from laboratory to production.
- Investigate customer complaints, shade mismatches, and colour-related quality issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain records of formulations, trial reports, shade approvals, raw material details, and quality inspection results.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and approved colour tolerances.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in colour matching, masterbatch manufacturing, pigment formulation, or plastics colour development.
- Practical knowledge of PET masterbatch and PET colour applications is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with spectrophotometers and instrumental colour measurement.
- Knowledge of CIELAB, Lab* values, Delta E (ΔE), colour difference, and shade tolerance.
- Strong understanding of pigment chemistry, pigment selection, colourants, dispersion, and formulation techniques.
- Experience in R&D; laboratory trials, shade development, formulation optimization, and new product development.
- Understanding of PET processing, polymer compatibility, thermal stability, and colour performance.
- Ability to troubleshoot colour variations, dispersion defects, and batch-to-batch inconsistencies.
- Knowledge of laboratory documentation, formulation records, trial reports, and quality control procedures.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Candidate Profile
Candidates with hands-on experience in PET masterbatch R&D;, colour formulation, spectrophotometer-based shade matching, pigment dispersion, current shade development, and formulation cost optimization will be preferred.
Experience in laboratory-to-production scale-up, colour standardization, root cause analysis, customer shade approval, and new product development will be an added advantage.
How to Apply
Interested candidates are requested to apply with their updated resume, highlighting their experience in PET masterbatch, R&D; activities, pigment formulation, colour matching, spectrophotometer operation, and shade development.
