Job Description (JD) – LIMS IT Engineer

Position: LIMS IT Engineer
Department: Information Technology / Laboratory Operations
Reporting To: IT Manager / Head of Operations

Job Summary

The LIMS IT Engineer is responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, support, and continuous improvement of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The role ensures seamless integration between laboratory instruments, hospital systems, ERP, CRM, and diagnostic platforms while maintaining data integrity, security, and compliance.

Key ResponsibilitiesLIMS Administration & Support

- Manage day-to-day operations of the LIMS application.
- Configure test masters, workflows, user roles, and access controls.
- Perform system upgrades, patch management, and error resolution.
- Provide Level 2/Level 3 support for LIMS-related issues.

System Integration

- Integrate LIMS with analyzers, instruments, HIS, EMR, ERP, CRM, and reporting platforms.
- Troubleshoot interface and data transmission issues.
- Manage HL7, API, and middleware integrations.

Database & Reporting

- Monitor and maintain LIMS databases.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and reports.
- Ensure accuracy and security of laboratory data.

Project Implementation

- Participate in new laboratory setups and LIMS deployment projects.
- Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and system validation.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders during implementations.

Compliance & Security

- Ensure compliance with NABL, CAP, ISO 15189, and regulatory requirements.




- Maintain audit trails, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices for laboratory systems.

User Training

- Train laboratory users on LIMS functionalities.
- Prepare SOPs, user manuals, and training documents.
- Support change management and process improvement initiatives.

Qualification

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 3-8 years of experience in LIMS administration/support.
- Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, pathology, or laboratory environments preferred.

Technical Skills

- LIMS platforms (Sunquest, STARLIMS, LabWare, Orchard, or similar).
- SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle databases.
- HL7, APIs, interface development, middleware.
- Windows Server and basic networking knowledge.
- Reporting tools and data analytics.
- Understanding of laboratory workflows and diagnostic operations.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
