About the Role
We are looking for a Product Designer to own the end-to-end experience of our EdTech platform for JEE, NEET, and board-exam aspirants. You will design across web, Android, and iOS — from the first-time student onboarding to live classes, tests, doubt-solving, and the purchase flow. You will work closely with product, engineering, content, and marketing to ship interfaces that hold up at scale: lakhs of students, low-end Android devices, patchy networks, and peak-hour traffic during exam season.
This is a hands-on craft role with real ownership. You will not be handed wireframes to prettify — you will be in the problem from discovery through to shipped pixels and post-launch iteration.
What You'll Do
- Own the design for one or more product areas — learning, assessments, content discovery, doubt-solving, or growth and monetization — from problem framing to shipped UI.
- Translate product requirements into user flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity screens.
- Talk to students, parents, and teachers directly — run usability sessions, watch session recordings, and turn what you see into design decisions you can defend.
- Design mobile-first, and design for the real device: low-end Android, 2GB RAM, unstable networks, small screens, and one-handed use during study hours.
- Build and maintain our design system — components, tokens, typography, spacing, iconography, and states — so that web, Android, and iOS stay consistent as the team scales.
- Partner with engineering on handoff: specs, redlines, edge cases, empty states, error states, loading behaviour, and what degrades gracefully when the network drops.
- Design conversion surfaces with the growth team — landing pages, paywalls, pricing pages, checkout, referral flows, and push/in-app notification patterns.
- Support A/B experiments — design variants worth testing, define what a win looks like visually and behaviourally, and iterate on results rather than opinions.
- Use behavioural data (Hotjar, Mixpanel, CleverTap, GA, or similar) alongside qualitative research to find friction and prioritise what to fix.
- Contribute to visual and brand consistency across product, marketing creatives, thumbnails, and app store assets in collaboration with the design and marketing teams.
- Keep a close eye on the competitive landscape (Physics Wallah, Unacademy, Vedantu, Allen, and adjacent consumer apps) and bring back patterns worth borrowing or beating.
Must-Have Skills
- 2–4 years of product design experience on a consumer-facing product — EdTech, e-commerce, fintech, or any other high-traffic website or app.
- A portfolio showing 2–3 shipped case studies with the problem, your process, the trade-offs you made, and what changed after launch. Portfolio is mandatory for this role.
- Strong command of Figma — components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping, and file hygiene others can actually work in.
- Solid UX fundamentals: user flows, information architecture, interaction patterns, and a real understanding of when to break a convention and when not to.
- Strong visual craft — typography, layout, hierarchy, colour, and spacing that survives contact with a live product.
- Experience designing native mobile (Android and iOS) with an understanding of platform-specific patterns and guidelines, not just responsive web.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system in production.
- Comfort working with engineers on feasibility and trade-offs — you know roughly what is cheap to build and what is not.
- Ability to run lightweight user research and usability testing yourself and synthesise it into decisions.
- Explicit communication — you can present a design to founders, explain the reasoning, take critique without flinching, and change your mind when the argument is better.
- Working familiarity with a modern product-design toolchain. You do not need all of these,
but should be strong in Figma and comfortable picking up the rest: Jira, Sketch, Adobe Illustrator, Miro, Maze, Dovetail, Hotjar, Adobe XD, Photoshop, After Effects, Lottie, Notion.
- High ownership and comfort with ambiguity — you can start from a one-line problem statement and come back with a direction.
Good to Have
- Prior experience in EdTech — JEE/NEET/boards, K-12, test-prep, or any learning product with real student outcomes attached.
- Experience designing assessment and test-taking interfaces — question players, timers, OMR-style inputs, result and analytics screens.
- Experience with live streaming or live class interfaces — chat, polls, hand-raise, playback, and low-bandwidth states.
- Experience designing for Indian users at scale — vernacular and Hinglish content, price sensitivity, shared devices, and first-time smartphone users.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and designing for readability over long study sessions.
- Motion and micro-interaction skills — Lottie, After Effects, or Figma prototyping for handoff-ready motion specs.
- Exposure to growth loops, referrals, and content funnels — especially YouTube/Shorts traffic converting into app users.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or design tokens, enough to speak the same language as front-end engineers.
- Formal design education (NID, IIT design programmes, or equivalent) — not required if the portfolio is strong.
What We're Looking For
- Student-obsessed — you care whether a 17-year-old actually understands the screen, not whether it looks good in a Dribbble shot.
- First-principles thinker who can simplify a messy problem and give the team clarity.
- Comfortable going from a whiteboard sketch to pixel-level polish in the same week.
- Craft-obsessed but pragmatic — you know when to ship at 80% and iterate.
- Collaborative — you earn trust with engineering, product, and content rather than defending territory.
- High-agency — you spot problems nobody assigned to you and take them on.
Pay: ₹400,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
