1. Master Production Scheduling & Demand Planning

- Translate Sales Forecasts: Convert rolling sales orders and customer commitments into detailed, line-level production schedules (e.g., from HR coil slitting to cold rolling, pickling, galvanizing, or finishing). [1, 2]
- Capacity & Bottleneck Analysis: Evaluate furnace, mill, and line capacities to maximize throughput without exceeding equipment or thermal limits. [1]
- Order Prioritization: Sequence production runs to minimize changeover/roll-switching times, furnace heating losses, and down-gauging penalties.

2. Inventory & Material Requirement Planning (MRP)

- Raw Material Coordination: Forecast and track availability of critical steel inputs (e.g., slabs, blooms, billets, hot-rolled coils, ferroalloys, and scrap) with the purchase department. [1]
- WIP & Finished Goods Control: Monitor stock levels to prevent overproduction while ensuring uninterrupted feed to rolling mills and finishing lines. [1]
- Working Capital Optimization: Keep holding costs low by balancing safety stock buffers with JIT (Just-In-Time) material arrivals.

Shop-Floor Control & Execution Monitoring

- Job & Work Order Issuance: Generate and track shop-floor job cards and production orders via ERP/MES platforms.
- Downtime & Deviation Management: Coordinate with maintenance and metallurgical quality control teams to address unplanned breakdowns, roll-change delays, or off-spec batches.

4. Cross-Functional Alignment & Reporting

- S&OP; Participation: Provide realistic lead times and feasibility inputs during Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP;) meetings.
- MIS & Performance Dashboards: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as OTIF/OTD, schedule adherence, mill utilization, and prime-to-scrap yield ratios.
- Team Leadership:
- Real-time Tracking: Monitor daily output, yield percentages, rework rates, and scrap generation against targets. [1, 2, 3]
