Role & responsibilities
If you prepared seriously for the civil services and still follow the news every day, we want you. At Way2News, youll help turn the days biggest stories into clear Telugu explainer videos across governance, general news, and international affairs. What happened? Why did it happen? What changes for Telugu families? Every 90-120 second explainer you do is backed by verified sources.
What you'll do
Your job is simple! Find the background behind today's news, and help turn it into a script. One day you might build a one-page note on why a river dispute between two states keeps returning. The next, you draft a script on what a ceasefire actually means. Later that week, you are on camera explaining the repo rate in 2 minutes.
1. Scan the news: list each morning the stories that need an explainer
2. Build the background note: one page per story with the timeline, key terms, the relevant provision or treaty, and the numbers with their sources
3. Draft scripts: write short video scripts in plain Telugu across all three beats, edited by an Associate Editor or Senior Editor
4. Explain the term: make short videos on words viewers keep hearing, such as ordinance, delimitation, repo rate, and ceasefire
5. Present: go on camera for simpler explainers first, with support from our video team
6. Keep the calendar: track budget days, elections, summits, and verdicts so the desk is ready before they happen
7. Prove it: file a source list with every script
Preferred candidate profile
You're probably a fit if
1. You still read the newspaper every morning, even though the exam is behind you
2. You made your own notes, and other aspirants borrowed them
3. You can connect today's headline to the chapter it belongs to
4. Friends and family already ask you to explain what is going on
5. You can give both sides of an issue without telling people what to think
6. You want your preparation to reach people, not sit in your notes
What you need
1. Preparation:
two or more years of serious preparation for the UPSC or state Group 1 or Group 2 exams
2. Telugu: fluent spoken and written Telugu. This is essential, wherever you studied
3. A regular, full-time degree in any subject, from a college anywhere in India
4. English reading: enough to read reports and source documents
You don't need a journalism degree, newsroom experience, camera experience, or a social media following. Your years of preparation count as experience here.
This role is not for you if
1. You plan to write the exam again next year
2. You have a political loyalty you can't set aside on camera
3. You want to write the way an exam answer reads. Here you write for someone listening on a phone
4. You don't want to appear on camera
5. You dislike being edited. Every script at Way2News is edited, often heavily
What success looks like
1. A viewer finishes your video and finally understands a story they had only seen in headlines
2. People look forward to your next explainer
3. People forward it to family because it answered a real question
4. Every fact holds up when someone checks it
5. Your scripts need fewer edits each month
What you get
1. Training from day one: a structured first month in scripting, camera delivery, and source verification
2. An editor on every script: you are never publishing alone while you learn
3. Tools: in-house research and scripting tools that carry part of the load
4. A use for what you know: the syllabus you studied is the work you do here
5. A explicit path: Junior Associate Editors move to Associate Editor on accuracy, consistency, and on-camera confidence, typically within 12 months
How to apply: Send three things to
[email protected]
1. A short note on your preparation: the exams you wrote, the years you prepared, and your optional subject
2. A 90-120 second Telugu video explaining one topic you would once have written a Mains answer on, for someone who has never heard of it (phone recording is fine)
3. Your sources for the video
Shortlisted applicants do a paid one-month trial with real topics and deadlines before any offer.
