Job Title : Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Microsoft Site Reliability Engineer
Role Summary :
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop and maintain high-quality online course content for the Microsoft Skilled Certificate in Site Reliability Engineering. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in reliability principles, observability, incident management, infrastructure as code, and AI-assisted operational workflows, combined with a genuine passion for teaching and dynamic on-camera instruction.
Roles & Responsibilities :
- Discovery & Alignment: Validate Job Task Analysis (JTA) documents, Coursera In-Demand Topic (IDT) frameworks, and Program Architectures to ensure content directly aligns with industry requirements for intermediate SRE roles.
- Content Development & AI Augmentation: Create comprehensive instructional materials including case studies, incident runbooks, architecture blueprints, and Terraform scripts. Substantively enhance AI-generated drafts with first-hand outage scenarios, SLO trade-offs, error budgets, and real practitioner context.
- Core Technical Instruction: Develop content across SLI/SLO formulation, Azure Monitor distributed tracing, Prometheus/Grafana dashboarding, Kubernetes scaling, Terraform IaC, chaos engineering, and Azure SRE Agent prompt flows.
- Activity Testing & Lab Validation: Complete all learner activities end-to-end as a student across Azure SRE Agent, Azure Monitor, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, and PagerDuty to verify platform feasibility, UI accuracy, timing, and dataset integrity.
- Assessment Design & AI Audit: Design technical quizzes, blameless post-mortem critiques, and capstone projects. Formulate rubrics to evaluate reliability design rigor, IaC deployment, telemetry collection, and human-in-the-loop responsible AI auditing.
- Multimedia & Video Production: Appear on camera to lead instructional video modules and architecture walkthroughs, while building synthetic log datasets, post-mortem templates, and Azure SRE Agent policy libraries for student labs.
- Governance & Safeguards: Enforce strict system isolation rules, ensure all incident labs rely on isolated sandbox environments, apply Contoso for real-world failure scenarios, and integrate Microsoft Responsible AI principles.
- Review, QA & Collaboration: Provide actionable in-line feedback and proposed fixes in shared documents, partnering closely with Instructional Designers, Security SMEs, and production teams while upholding Microsoft guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience :
Required:
- 5–8 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Systems Engineering, including 3+ years managing production infrastructure and leading incident response.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience incorporating AI-assisted operational tools and infrastructure automation into daily workflows.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, and Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions.
- Dynamic on-camera presentation capabilities to record instructional video modules with authentic conviction.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, IT, or related field (8+ years of relevant domain leadership accepted in lieu of degree).
Preferred:
- Master's degree (MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Systems Architecture).
- Background in corporate training, university instruction, or creating educational public video content.
